Celebrating May's Orbit of Excellence Recipients

OEA

Last week, we got together to celebrate our latest Orbit of Excellence Award winners the best way we know how: with a giant pancake breakfast and some well-deserved trophies!

This month was all about Perseverance. We are seriously proud of these rockstar students who showed everyone what it means to push through challenges, keep trying, and never give up when the going gets tough.

A Quick Tip for Co-Parents & Co-Guardians Using TalkingPoints

Have you noticed that when you message your child’s teacher on TalkingPoints, you can only see your own side of the conversation? If a co-parent or another listed contact person is also messaging the teacher, their updates don't automatically show up in your thread.

The good news? It’s a quick fix! You can link your communication threads right in your app settings so that everyone stays on the same page. Here are the directions with a screenshots on how to adjust the settings to ensure both parents and guardians can see the full conversation with the teacher.

Celebrating Our Multilingual Scholars

MLL Celebration

We have some great news to share with the RHES community. Recently, over 30 of our multilingual learner students were recognized for their outstanding progress in language acquisition.

Every year, these students take the WIDA assessment to measure their academic English skills. Thanks to their consistent hard work and dedication, these celebrated students have shown continuous growth over the years and have now officially reached a level of proficiency where they no longer require multilingual learner services.

This is a significant milestone that reflects the dedication of the students, the support of their families, and the hard work of our teachers.

Please join us in congratulating these students on their achievements. We are incredibly proud of their progress and look forward to seeing their continued success.

A Springtime Tradition: The 5th Grade Sword Dance

Sword Dance

If you walk past our music classrooms during the spring months, you might hear a rhythmic beat and catch a glimpse of our 5th graders performing the traditional Sword Dance!

But don't worry, families—no real swords are used in the making of this performance!

This beloved RHES tradition is a fantastic showcase of our students' growing musicality. Throughout the unit, they don't just learn the intricate steps of the dance; they also learn how to play the accompanying music on classroom instruments. The real magic happens when they put it all together, combining complex rhythm, steady tempo, and coordinated movement into one seamless performance.

We are so proud of the teamwork and focus our 5th graders bring to this unique musical challenge every year!

Pedestrian Safety & Respect Reminder: Library Driveway

As our school year continues, we want to ensure all our students, families, and neighbors stay safe during morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups.

A many of our community members use the adjacent library parking lot, we want to share a few critical safety reminders regarding the library driveway entry:

  • Slow Down: Cars frequently pull in and out of the library driveway too quickly. Please maintain a slow, cautious speed.

  • Watch the Blind Turn: The shrubs near the library side of the driveway obstruct the view of the sidewalk. Assume someone is walking around that corner and approach with extreme caution.

  • Keep Crosswalks Clear: Please do not park or idle your vehicle inside or blocking the crosswalk area.

  • Model Kindness & Respect: Our community thrives on mutual respect. Please look out for pedestrians, yield the right-of-way to those crossing, and keep our interactions polite and supportive.

While we navigate the busier areas around the library property, we want to give a massive shout-out to Mrs. Atoum and Mr. Reyes, who does a wonderful job keeping everyone safe at the school-side crosswalk every single day. We appreciate you!

Big Bricks, Bigger Imaginations in Preschool

Magna-tiles

Our preschool classrooms recently received an exciting new addition: extra-large Magna-Tiles! To say they are a hit would be a massive understatement.

These oversized, magnetic builders have taken playtime to new heights—literally! Our youngest learners are collaborating, sharing ideas, and tapping into their endless creativity to construct towers and buildings almost as tall as they are. Watching them work together to balance the giant pieces and problem-solve has been pure joy.
