America 250: A Musical Celebration of Our Nation's History

Thursday, July 9, 6-7:30 p.m. at Lubber Run

Join us as we commemorate America's 250th anniversary with a special musical performance by the renowned Quantico Marine Corps Band. Through patriotic favorites and selections that reflect our nation's rich history and heritage, this memorable evening will celebrate the people, events and ideals that have shaped the United States over the past 250 years. Whether you are a history enthusiast, music lover, or simply looking for an enjoyable evening of entertainment, this performance promises to be both inspiring and uplifting. Light refreshments will be provided.

Registration is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome as space permits. Open to all ages: no 55+ Pass required. Register: #914899-09

Happy Pride Month!

Celebrate Pride Month with 55+ friends! Spaces are still available in the programs listed below, or see page 14 of the 55+ Guide for a complete list of activities.

  • Equality in Action: Thurs., June 11, 3-4 p.m.  Virtual. An insightful presentation on Equality NoVa's mission to improve quality of life for the LGBTQ community. Register: #914400-15.
  • Stonewall Monument Ranger Talk: Fri., June 12, 1-2 p.m. Virtual. Join a Stonewall National Monument park ranger to explore the history and impact of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising. Register: #914400-18.
  • The Legacy of Pride: Tues., June 23, 2-3 p.m. at Lubber Run. An interactive program exploring LGBTQ+ history, lived experiences and the powerful role older adults have played in shaping the movement. Register: #914400-17.

 

Keep the Celebration Going at PRIDE Senior Prom!

Friday, June 12, 7-10 p.m. at Central Library

Whether your prom was fabulous fun or you'd like a do-over, this Prom is for you! Join Arlington Libraries and the 55+ Program for an inclusive night of fun, music and community. Couples, singles and groups are welcome. Dress to impress for the photo booth and friendly dance contest! Open to ages 21 and over. Alcoholic drinks available for purchase with ID. With special guests, the DC Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence!

Support Lubber Run 55+ Programs at a Documentary Screening!

Friday, June 12, 6-8 p.m. at Lubber Run

Join 55+ friends for a screening of Phenomena of Emotions, a documentary film that delves into the intricate relationship between emotions and visual storytelling in film. A reception will follow the film screening. Jacob Simmons, the director and producer, will be available to answer questions about the documentary. Donations will be accepted to support Lubber Run's 55+ programs. Register: #914804-07

Park and Play

Friday, June 12, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Virginia Highlands Park

Join us for a fun-filled event featuring a relaxing walk in the park, a variety of games like cornhole and bean bag toss, and the opportunity to hang out with 55+ friends in the fresh air! Register: #914899-01

PAL Therapy Dog Visit

Wednesday, June 17, 1-2 p.m. at Arlington Mill

Enjoy a visit from the volunteers and friendly therapy dogs of PAL (People Animals Love)! Participants can interact with the dogs, enjoy their calming presence and experience the joy and comfort that therapy animals bring. Register: #914801-07

Prom Night at Arlington Mill

Friday, June 26, 4-7 p.m. at Arlington Mill

Join us for an unforgettable evening featuring dinner, dancing, a themed photo booth, a DJ and prizes! Register by June 18. Once you have registered, please remember to pay the $15 admission fee by visiting the Alliance website before the event. Register: #914899-02

Enjoy Music with 55+ Friends!

  • Musical Bingo: Wednesday, June 24, 4-5:30 p.m. at Arlington Mill. Test your musical knowledge, enjoy oldies and classics and compete to be the first to shout “Bingo!” Register: #914600-13.
  • Karaoke: Monday, June 29, 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Aurora Hills. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or just want to enjoy the show, this event is all about having a good time with friends! Register: #914304-15.
