A Message from the Principal

Message from the Centre Ridge Administrative Team

As we approach summer break and students spend more time outdoors, we would like to share an important safety reminder regarding the use of e-bikes, e-scooters, mini bikes, and other motorized devices.

Recently, concerns have been raised about children riding e-bikes and similar devices in neighborhood streets without helmets, traveling at unsafe speeds, and not consistently following traffic safety rules. These situations create potential safety risks not only for the riders themselves, but also for pedestrians, drivers, and other community members.

We encourage families to review the following safety expectations with their children:

  • Always wear a properly fitted helmet when riding a bicycle, e-bike, scooter, or similar device.
  • Follow traffic laws and neighborhood safety rules.
  • Remain alert and aware of vehicles, pedestrians, and other riders.
  • Ride responsibly and avoid speeding, performing unsafe maneuvers, or carrying multiple riders on a device not designed for more than one person.
  • Be respectful of others by riding in appropriate areas and yielding when necessary.

Please note that e-bikes, e-scooters, mini bikes, and other motorized transportation devices are not permitted on school property during school hours.

We also ask families to carefully consider whether their child is developmentally ready to operate a motorized device and to review any applicable local laws, regulations, and manufacturer safety recommendations.

Our goal is to help all students enjoy their independence while making safe choices that protect themselves and others. Thank you for partnering with us to reinforce these important safety expectations as we head into the summer months.

Families have the option to have their child take their laptop home over the summer. They will have access to FCPS resources and applications through July. Laptops will need to be returned by early August. If you would like to “opt in” to have your child take their laptop home, please complete the form.

End of Year Medicine Pickup

All medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after dismissal on the last day of school will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).
