Principal’s Message to Families

Dear Ravens Families,

This first week of June included wrapping up our SOL testing, attending music assemblies and concerts, and enjoying a visit with the librarian from our public library. It was a pleasure seeing all our families this week at the music concerts where our strings, band, and chorus students entertained and wowed us with their performances. Please join us Monday evening, June 8th, for our End of Year Bash hosted by our PTA. The excitement keeps building, as we celebrate this year’s growth and friendships!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Shannon Mueck

Principal

Request for Parent Input:

Increasing Family Engagement for SY 26-27

One of our top priorities for our upcoming school year is to increase opportunities for our parents, caregivers, and families to engage with Ravensworth ES.  This includes volunteering during the school day, as well as supporting and attending special events during and after school hours. We are seeking your input on ideas that are currently in the works, and we would like to know what family engagement opportunities you would like to see added/continued at RES next year.  Strong school and family partnership is the key to our students' success both academically and socially/emotionally.  We appreciate your time, support, and feedback.  Looking forward to ending this school year strong and serving your child/children and your family in SY 26-27.  Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey.

Medication Pickup

Medication Pick-Up

All medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than 1:20 on Wednesday, June 17.

  • Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed
  • All medications must be picked up by the parent/guardian
  • Medication cannot be sent home with your student.
  • If your student is enrolled in a summer program sponsored by FCPS, the existing mediation authorization form may be used, but parents will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the mediation and form to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

Field Day

Field Day is Coming!

What is field day?  It is a time where classes will be spread throughout the school property during their designated time and day during school hours.  Students will be participating in games/activities they have done throughout this school year in their PE class.  We encourage students to demonstrate good sportsmanship, cooperation and to have fun!

On this day students should wear appropriate clothes and shoes for movement and to bring their hat/sunglasses and their water bottle.  We want students to stay hydrated during their field day.

Field Day for grades K-3, June 11

Field Day for grades 4-6, June 12

If there is inclement weather, Field Day will still occur on the same day, but the times will be adjusted, and it will be held indoors.

Food Service

FCPS Summer Food Service Program –  Summer Meals

FCPS is excited to continue the Summer Food Service Program beginning on Monday, June 22, through Friday, August 21. At area-eligible sites, all students can receive breakfast and lunch at no cost, helping ensure they continue to have access to balanced, nutritious meals during summer break.

This year, thanks to generous support from Educate Fairfax, families may also receive one no-cost breakfast and lunch per adult at the following eligible sites:

  • Braddock Elementary School
  • Dogwood Elementary School
  • Glen Forest Elementary School
  • Hutchison Elementary School
  • Hybla Valley Elementary School
  • London Towne Elementary School

Students must consume meals on-site. Additional sites will be added throughout the summer. Check the Food and Nutrition Services website for updates on specific dates, times, and locations.

FCPS provides balanced meals that support students’ growth so they return to school ready to learn. Summer meals are just as nutritious and tasty as school-year meals. Meals include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein, and low-fat or fat-free milk, plus plant-based options.

Want to know what’s on the menu? Food and Nutrition Services has a summer menu available.

For questions, please call 703-813-4800 or email summermeals@fcps.edu

Please Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance

It’s a busy time of year, and we know many priorities are on your plate. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to check your student’s MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.

Free and Reduced-Price Meals

Families who earn less than 185% of the poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals (FRM). However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2026-27 school year will be available this summer.

If you have a current balance and think you may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2025-26 school year.
