Rising 9th Grade Visit to Lewis HS

Rising 9

We are excited to celebrate our 8th graders' upcoming transition and help guide them as they take their next big stride in their academic journey! On Monday, June 15, our future 9th graders will be heading over to Lewis High School to get a firsthand look at this exciting next step.

This year we will be walking to Lewis High School as a group. Because we will be navigating the neighborhood as an entire grade level, all 8th-grade teachers will be walking alongside the students to keep the trip safe, organized, and running smoothly. As you help your student prepare, please ensure they wear comfortable walking shoes and dresses appropriately for the weather that day.

A completed permission slip is required for students to participate. Permission slips were sent home with students this week. Please review, sign, and have your student return the slip as soon as possible so we can ensure they can participate in this milestone event. If your student needs another copy of the permission slip, please have them contact their counselor.

If you have any questions about this event, please contact Jane Flegal, jcflegal@fcps.edu.

We look forward to this great experience for our 8th graders!

Family Vision Group Representative Opportunity

Key Middle School is seeking a parent or guardian representative to participate in the FCPS Family Vision Group (FVG), a district-level community engagement group that brings together families and school leaders to discuss initiatives, share feedback, and strengthen family-school partnerships across Fairfax County Public Schools.

Representatives serve as a voice for Key Middle School families and help share family perspectives in division-wide conversations. The commitment includes attending approximately six meetings per year, which are typically held in person from 6:00–7:30 p.m. on weekday evenings, location TBD.

If you would like to learn more about this opportunity or are interested in serving as a representative, please contact Deborah Vel at dsvel@fcps.edu.

We appreciate your partnership and your willingness to support the Key Middle School community.
