Collage featuring graduates from Chantilly and Oakton visiting their former Middle School, and students doing Poetry palooza in the library in 8th grade English.
Franklin Community,
This week was an exciting one for many of our former Franklin students as both Oakton High School and Chantilly High School held their graduation ceremonies on Wednesday. As you know, our students feed roughly half and half to Oakton and Chantilly, so Wednesday was a big day for our Franklin community. We are incredibly proud of all of our former Falcons who crossed the stage and celebrated this important milestone.
On Tuesday, we had the opportunity to welcome approximately 150 of those graduates back to Franklin for a grad walk through the building. Our current students lined the hallways, music played throughout the school, and everyone cheered as the graduates made their way through the building. After the walk, we held a reception that gave our former students the chance to reconnect with former teachers, visit familiar spaces, and take a few pictures along the way.
This was such a great event for Franklin. It was especially meaningful to see our current students cheering on the graduates and getting a glimpse of what lies ahead for them in just a few short years. The event grew so much this year, and we hope to continue building on it in the future. Congratulations again to all of our former Franklin students who graduated on Wednesday!
As we look ahead, we have several end-of-year events occurring next week. Laptop collection will take place through PE classes on Wednesday, June 11, and Thursday, June 12. Please help remind your student to bring their laptop and charger so that we can collect devices efficiently.
We will also hold team award ceremonies on Monday, June 15. These ceremonies give us a chance to recognize students for their hard work, growth, character, and contributions throughout the school year. If your student is receiving an award, families will be invited to attend the ceremony. We are looking forward to celebrating our students and all they have accomplished this year.
On Tuesday, June 16, we will hold our field day with lots of great activities, snacks, and fun planned for students. This is always a wonderful way to celebrate the end of the year and give students a chance to enjoy time together as a school community. Thank you to our PTA for their help in funding and organizing the event. We are still looking for volunteers, so if you are able to help, please let me know or contact our PTA President, Necoya Tyson.
Please remember that the last day of school is Wednesday, June 17, and students will be dismissed two hours early.
Lastly, we want to congratulate our track and field athletes for a great showing at the championships last weekend. Our boys placed 8th overall and our girls placed 7th overall out of all middle schools in Fairfax County. We also had several outstanding individual finishes, including 1st place in the boys 200m, 3rd place in the boys 100m, 4th place in the girls 1600m, and 5th place in the girls 400m.
Great job to all of our athletes for a fantastic season. We are proud of the hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship they showed throughout the spring. A big thank you also goes to our coaches for all of their time, energy, and commitment to supporting our students.
We hope everyone has a great weekend as we prepare for the final stretch of the school year. Go Falcons!

PTA - Opportunities to Help
End of Year Parties
We are actively planning the 7th and 8th grade end of year parties, to be held on June 16. For the 7th and 8th grade parties, we are still in planning stages, but plan on having a large outdoor inflatable obstacle course, a photo booth, and ice cream and popsicle treats -- Depending on donations, we may be able to do more!
We wanted to ask for your help in getting out the word on a few things as we wrap up the year. We are still looking for volunteers for the parties -- I know that we're all at the stage where our kids don't necessarily want us there, but this really cannot run without parent volunteers -- I'm personally going to volunteer at the 7th grade party to avoid being seen by my 8th grader! :)

We also are still seeking donations, and would appreciate any help at reaching out to friends to get some additional donations -- any amount is fine and more than appreciated!

Medications in Clinic
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

~Helpful Information~
New Cellphone Policy Starts July 1
On Thursday, May 7, the Fairfax County School Board approved changes to the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R). The approved changes include updated guidance for cellphone possession and use, to align the FCPS cellphone policy with Senate Bill 108. This new Virginia law goes into effect on July 1 and states that all schools in the Commonwealth must follow a “bell-to-bell” phone-free policy.
This means that starting July 1, 2026, across all grade levels at FCPS, student cellphones, phone accessories, and all smart devices (including watches that serve a dual purpose, such as smart watches, as well as earbuds, headsets, smart glasses, and other other items connected to the internet) must be off and personally stored (i.e., put away in backpacks) for the duration of the school day — thus, no cellphones from bell to bell.
