Dear Mantua families,
Our week was completely packed with activities, smiles and joy! Our 6th grade students spent the day exploring Luray Caverns. This was a new event this year and was a great success! Our first grade students went “camping” in the classroom and invited some of our older students to read to them. It was a fantastic integrative learning experience! And finally, we gladly welcomed graduating seniors from Falls Church and Woodson High Schools to join us for our annual Grad Walk, where our students cheered them on as they reached new life milestones!
In the week ahead:
- Next Tuesday and Wednesday, we host Field Days! This is a much-anticipated outdoor event that requires extra attention to student dress that day. We have details below, and you can also reach out to your child’s teacher with questions.
- We are looking forward to our 5th and 6th grade Spring Chorus Concert, Thursday, June 11 at 7 p.m.! This event is open to all families; you won’t want to miss our beautiful student voices!
Have a fantastic weekend!
Take good care,
Ms. Shannon, Mrs. Vaughan, Ms. Maurer

In partnership with Educate Fairfax and the FCPS Get2Green initiative, Mantua took gardening and sustainability to the next level! Shown below are some 2nd grade students harvesting and enjoying radishes, carrots, and spinach. We are so grateful for Ms. Sullivan, our Get2Green chair, and Julie Lohela, our resident plant expert, for their countless hours preparing and executing this huge task. Thank you also to Chad Lehman, our Region 5 Executive Principal, for sharing in our celebration!
Laptop and Charger Return
Laptop collection will be on June 12th and 15th and will be directed by teachers. Mantua’s new policy is to charge a fee for replacing a lost laptop charger during the year. Please make every effort to gather these items and, if your child has misplaced their charger, pay the $29 fee in the Mantua MySchoolBucks store. Please contact Chris Webster directly regarding laptop replacements at cwebster@fcps.edu. We thank you for your partnership in caring for school property this year.
Summer Opportunities
If you are looking for summer opportunities for your child, please stop by the Mantua main office! We receive a number of flyers about FCPS events as well as local community camps and events, and we place these for all to see in the main office. While not all of these are sponsored by or associated with FCPS, many are affiliated with FCPS staff members or companies in our community. Stop by to see what is available!
Mantua Field Days
Field Days are one of our most-anticipated days of the year! To make Field Days safe and fun for your student, we have a few friendly reminders as you prepare:
- Have your child wear closed-toed/tennis shoes that day. We want our students to stay safe as they actively run and participate!
- Send your child with a water bottle and sunscreen
- Consider packing a towel and/or change of clothes. Students get very wet during the water games and may need a way to dry off before heading back to class
We want every child to feel they can participate fully and we appreciate your consideration!
- In case you missed it in FCPS This Week, the school division shared updates on the following topics:
- Calendar Survey
- Summer Resources
- Deadline to Request Accommodations for SAT School Day
