Hello there, Tor here again. So here's a question I get a lot from people thinking about packing smaller: "If I pack less, won't I just run out of clothes halfway through the trip?" That fear makes complete sense! When you imagine carry-on only, your brain pictures wearing the same 2 outfits for 2 weeks straight... But that's NOT actually how it works. The trick is something called a capsule wardrobe. I know that term sounds a little "Pinterest-y" for some, but stay with me. The idea is simple: Every top pairs with every bottom. That's it. When all your pieces match each other, the math gets a little wild:
So 6 clothing items can give you 12+ different combinations. Add one layer and you're closer to 24... That's almost a month of different outfits without repeating a single look. A few months back, I did a 2-month+ trip with 7 kg total. All clothes in the capsule style. Same small set of clothes the whole way. And honestly, the trip felt completely normal: No running out, no feeling unprepared, no "I have nothing to wear" moments. I even filmed the whole packing and re-packing process, day by day, so you can see what it actually looks like in real life:
The thing most people miss is this: overpacking isn't really about having more options. It's about not having the right options. A capsule fixes that by making every piece a right option. Have a great Sunday, P.S. I'm putting something together for everybody in the newsletter in the next few weeks, and I want to make sure it's actually useful. What's your biggest packing question right now? Just hit reply and let me know. I read every one |
