Juan tells us why he chose this photo
It captures the strange calm within a moment of national crisis. The operation quickly became a story in itself, as protesters, many of them farmers, repeatedly returned to rebuild the roadblocks after they had been cleared. Tear gas filled the air and stones were thrown, but what struck me most was the contradiction in front of me: instead of running, the protesters stood calmly, almost motionless inside the gas.
