A Note from the Principal

Dear Daniels Run Families,

As we wrap up another busy and exciting week at DRES, I want to take a moment to reflect on the many ways our school community continues to come together to support and celebrate one another.

Last Friday night’s volleyball game against Providence was a wonderful example of that spirit. Not only did DRES come away with our first victory in several years, but more importantly, it was an evening filled with laughter, school pride, and community connection. It was great to see students, staff, and families all cheering together and representing the City of Fairfax with such enthusiasm.

On Wednesday, we were proud to celebrate several of our AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) students at Fairfax High School. Their hard work, perseverance, and commitment to academic success truly reflect the best of our Daniels Run community.

Students are looking forward to a well-deserved long weekend with five days away from school. As we head into Memorial Day on Monday, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We are deeply grateful for their sacrifice and for the families who continue to serve our nation.

Tuesday is a Teacher Workday, and Wednesday marks Eid al-Adha. We extend our warmest wishes to all our families celebrating the holiday and hope your time together is filled with peace and joy.

As we begin to close out another wonderful school year, please be sure to review your classroom’s weekly newsletter for important information about Success Days, year-end celebrations, and upcoming events. We are also excited to celebrate our 6th grade students at their Promotion Ceremony on Monday, June 15th at 2:00 p.m. at Fairfax High School.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support throughout the year. Wishing you and your family a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable long weekend.

Warm regards,

Susan Mullen, Principal

Please Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance

It’s a busy time of year, and we know many priorities are on your plate. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to check your student’s MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.

Free and Reduced-Price Meals

Families who earn less than 185% of the poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals (FRM). However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2026-27 school year will be available this summer.

If you have a current balance and think you may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2025-26 school year.

End of School Year Medication Reminder

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site  on  the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).
