EM03 Chronicle Festival Invitation - Speakers

Hi Tymczasowy,

The full agenda for The Chronicle Festival 2026: Building Trust During Change is now available and this year’s conversations will tackle some of the biggest questions facing higher education right now.

Across three afternoons in September, Chronicle journalists will interview leading thinkers, researchers, and campus leaders about rebuilding trust with students, leading through uncertainty, and preparing graduates for a rapidly changing work force.

Here’s a snapshot of some of the conversations shaping this year’s festival:

Day 1 - Building Trust with Students

How can colleges reconnect with students who feel disengaged from learning?

In Reengaging the Disengaged, Rebecca Winthrop, co-author of The Disengaged Teen, will discuss why so many students feel “simultaneously bored and overwhelmed,” what colleges can do to better connect students to learning and campus life, and how institutions should approach AI in the classroom. The conversation will be led by Chronicle Senior Writer Beth McMurtrie.

Day 2 - Building Trust as a Leader

Leadership in higher education has rarely faced greater pressure.

In Building Trust as a Leader, former university presidents Jonathan Holloway and Ana Mari Cauce will reflect on what they learned navigating political scrutiny, financial pressures, and campus tensions, and how leaders can build trust with faculty members, staff, students, and the public. The session will be moderated by Chronicle News Editor Sarah Brown.

Day 3 - Building Trust to Support the Work Force

What skills will students need for jobs that don’t yet exist?

In What Are the Future Skills for Students?, Michelle R. Weise, author of Long-Life Learning, will explore how colleges can prepare students for a changing work force shaped by AI and automation and why tomorrow’s graduates will need both technical expertise and intellectual dexterity. The discussion will be led by Chronicle Senior Editor Daarel Burnette.
