Principal's Message

Dear Eagle View Families,

It is hard to believe that we are already nearing the end of another wonderful school year at Eagle View! As we head into these final weeks, we have many exciting events and celebrations planned for our students and families.

This past Saturday, May 16, some of our 3rd-6th grade girls proudly participated in the Girls on the Run 5K celebration. This spring, 21 Eagle View students participated in Girls on the Run, where they learned important life skills that will help them succeed at school, at home, and in their everyday lives. Throughout the season, students focused on confidence-building, teamwork, healthy decision-making, and developing a lifelong appreciation for health and fitness.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible Girls on the Run coaches: Ms. Oddo-Bennett, Ms. Goodfriend, Ms. Costello, Ms. Valenti, and Ms. Eisenbach. These dedicated staff members generously gave countless hours beyond the school day to mentor, encourage, and support our students throughout the season. Their positive leadership and commitment helped our girls activate their limitless potential while preparing for the season-ending 5K. We are so grateful for the care and encouragement they provide to our students each and every day.

We are also looking forward to our Heritage Day celebration on June 4, where students will have the opportunity to learn about and celebrate the many cultures and traditions represented within our Eagle View community. During Heritage Day, students will present posters about their heritage and are encouraged to wear clothing that represents their culture or heritage. We are excited to celebrate the diversity that makes our Eagle View community so special.

On June 5, students will enjoy one of their favorite traditions of the year — Field Day! We are excited for a day full of teamwork, fun, and school spirit.  We need at least two parent volunteers from each class to make our Field Day operable.   If you are available on June 5th, please let your child's teacher know.

Friendly Reminder: This Wednesday, May 20, is our last Early Release Wednesday (ERW) of the school year. Students will be dismissed according to the current dismissal plan we have on file. In the event of an emergency that necessitates a last-minute change, please contact the main office at (703) 322-3100 before 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 20.  Thank you for your cooperation as we work together to ensure the safety of all students.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support throughout this school year. We are so proud of our students and grateful for the incredible Eagle View community. We look forward to finishing the year strong together!

Sincerely,

KJ An

Principal

New Cellphone Policy Starts July 1

On Thursday, May 7, the Fairfax County School Board approved changes to the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R). The approved changes include updated guidance for cellphone possession and use, to align the FCPS cellphone policy with Senate Bill 108. This new Virginia law goes into effect on July 1 and states that all schools in the Commonwealth must follow a “bell-to-bell” phone-free policy.

This means that starting July 1, 2026, across all grade levels at FCPS, student cellphones, phone accessories, and all smart devices (including watches that serve a dual purpose, such as smart watches, as well as earbuds, headsets, smart glasses, and other other items connected to the internet) must be off and personally stored (i.e., put away in backpacks) for the duration of the school day — thus, no cellphones from bell to bell.

High school students will no longer be able to use cellphones and personal devices during lunchtime. More details are available on the FCPS Cellphone Policy webpage

Other SR&R Changes for the 2026-27 School Year

Visit the FCPS website or the School Board agenda to learn about additional updates, including:

  • Added guidance and procedures for in-school and out-of-school suspensions and discipline investigations, including supports for students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
  • Expanded guidance and standardized disciplinary procedures (“Universal Grade Matrices”) related to harassment, hate speech, discriminatory behavior, and Title IX reporting requirements.
  • Responses to incidents involving intimate images, fighting, physical aggression, object throwing, and drug policy violations.

Finish the School Year With Strong Attendance!

As we enter the final weeks of the school year, Fairfax County Public Schools appreciates your continued partnership in supporting your child’s success. Regular attendance plays an important role in helping students stay engaged in learning, maintain connections with their teachers and peers, and finish the school year strong.

Attending school consistently also helps students build valuable habits such as responsibility, perseverance, and daily routines that support success both in and out of the classroom.

If your child needs to miss school, please remember to report the absence. Full-day absences can be reported in ParentVUE. Families may also report absences by calling the school attendance line or emailing the school-designated attendance address.

If your child is experiencing challenges that are affecting attendance, we are here to help. Please contact your child’s school so staff can partner with you to provide support and resources. Learn more about attendance resources

Fiscal Year 2027 Budget Update

On Friday, May 8, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid provided an update on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Budget. FCPS receives the majority of its funding from the Fairfax County Government and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Fairfax County Government recently adopted its FY 2027 Budget, and at the funding levels provided, there is currently a $28 million budget gap. In addition, the state budget has not been finalized. At last Thursday's School Board meeting, the superintendent proposed adjustments that would balance the FCPS budget.

Read Dr. Reid’s message to the community for more information on the budget process and budget priorities.

Class Placement for the 26-27 SY

As we begin planning for the next school year, we take great care in creating balanced class placements that support both the academic growth and social development of every student. Our teachers, specialists, and administrators collaborate closely during this process—and we value your insights as part of that team.

If you would like to share information about your child that you feel will help us make the best possible placement, please complete the Parent Input Form by May 28, 2026.  While we do not accept specific teacher requests, we welcome your thoughts about your child’s learning style, peer relationships, and any other factors you believe are important.

Completion of this form is optional. Please note that forms submitted over the summer may be difficult to accommodate, as the placement process may already be completed.

Thank you for being a vital partner in your child’s success!
