Sen. Bill Cassidy, a two-term Republican, lost his primary in Louisiana as a pair of GOP challengers advanced to a runoff, NBC News projects. It’s the first time Cassidy has faced voters in an election since he voted in 2021 to convict Donald Trump on impeachment charges following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Trump-endorsed Rep. Julia Letlow and state Treasurer John Fleming advanced to the Republican primary runoff after no candidate received majority support. |
