Avon Lands Debut Fantasy Rom-Com
Julia Elliott at Avon preempted U.S. rights to How to Save a Dog from the Underworld by debut author S.J. Cristea from Kiya Evans at Paper Literary. The fantasy rom-com follows a “headstrong necromancer who travels to the Underworld to retrieve her dog’s soul,” only to find her pet in the care of the handsome God of the Underworld, per the publisher. Publication is slated for summer 2027, and translation rights have been sold in 10 territories so far.
Random House Sets New ‘Godfather’ Novel
Caitlin McKenna at Random House acquired North American rights, in an eight-way auction, to Connie, a new novel in the Godfather saga, by Adriana Trigiani, in collaboration with the Mario Puzo estate. Suzanne Gluck at WME and Neil Olson at Massie McQuilkin & Altman handled the deal. Publication is slated for fall 2027.
Beyond the Book with K.F. Breene
K.F. Breene, who has written more than 40 books in nearly a dozen series since self-publishing her first novel in 2013, will hit another milestone in her publishing journey in August. Her fantasy romance novel Born in Fire will be released by AETHON: Vault, marking the first time that Breene’s work will be available in brick-and-mortar locations. (Sponsored)

Among this week’s offerings are Aaron Shulman’s Bolaño: Life and Afterlife, the first English-language biography of Chilean novelist and poet Roberto Bolaño; Lee Goldberg’s The Invisible Architect, the second mystery in the author’s Edison Bixby series that pits the titular investigator against an assassin who stages homicides as accidents; and Mother Made Me by Niamh Mulvey, inspired by a real episode in the life of Patricia Highsmith.
The Latest in Children’s and YA Deals
New projects this week include It Begins with the End by Samira Ahmed, a novel-in-verse set during WWII, which starts on the day a young British spy is set to be executed by the Nazis, and reverses back through her memories of a life filled with resistance, courage, and love; Misty Wilson’s 48 Hours to Forever, a YA romance about a girl whose late brother’s best friend joins her prom group a year after they stopped speaking, which follows their reunion over a wild prom weekend; and Last Night at the Carnival Graveyard, Newbery Honor author Gennifer Choldenko’s middle grade novel about a sick kid who desperately wants his best friend back, pitched as Toy Story meets The Fault in Our Stars.
