Note from Los Angeles VA Regional Office Assistant Director, Jamie Cannon
Memorial Day is dedicated to honoring and remembering the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. While it is observed on the last Monday of May, Carry The Load's Memorial May campaign takes place all month long to provide ways to connect Americans to the sacrifices made by our military, Veterans, first responders, and their families. You can participate by walking in the National Relay, attending a rally, fundraising for our nation’s heroes, or taking part virtually.

Honoring AANHPI Veterans
Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Month
Each May, we celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month—a time to recognize the histories, cultures, and countless contributions of AANHPI communities to our nation. This month also offers a meaningful opportunity to honor the AANHPI Veterans who have served with courage, loyalty, and unwavering dedication across generations. From World War II to today’s military operations, AANHPI service members have played vital roles in defending our nation. Their legacy includes stories of resilience in the face of discrimination, exceptional heroism on the battlefield, and continued leadership within our military and Veteran communities. Their service reminds us that America’s strength is rooted in its diversity. As we observe this month, we express our profound gratitude to the AANHPI Veterans who have worn our nation’s uniform. We recognize the families who supported them, the cultures that shaped them, and the contributions they continue to make in our communities and workplaces. Let us celebrate their achievements, listen to their stories, and recommit ourselves to ensuring every Veteran—of every background—receives the respect, recognition, and support they deserve.
To all AANHPI Veterans: thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your enduring impact on our nation.

Rudisill Perkins Updates
VA is making it easier for eligible Veterans to receive their additional G.I. Bill benefits as a result of the Supreme Court of the United States' Rudisill decision and the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims’ (Veterans Court) Perkins decision.
VA no longer requires Veterans to ask VA for an assessment of their eligibility for both Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) and Post-9/11 GI Bill (PGIB) under the two court rulings. Instead, VA will continue to review eligibility for Veterans with less than three months of education benefits left and who are either currently enrolled in school or were enrolled in the last six months. Focusing on these high-priority Veterans means that no student will be left without benefits if they qualify for additional benefits under either ruling.
To learn more about both decisions and the impact to GI Bill benefits, visit the Rudisill Perkins webpage.
