But first: how to make mealtime easier

here's the plan

You worked hard enough this week. Let us plan your weekend…

  1. 1.

Did you know Chessy from The Parent Trap (sorry, Lisa Ann Walter) has been doing stand-up for 37 years? Or that she gives the best unsolicited advice? You will once you watch her debut comedy special, which just dropped on Hulu. In it, she jokes about dating post-divorce in LA (thank you for saying the quiet part out loud), raising twin teenage boys, and being “a grown-ass woman who has been paying attention.” BRB while we grab our denim overshirts.

  2. 2.

The fresh-cut flowers that Trader Joe’s customers wait all year for are finally back and under $10. So, scientifically, you should already be in the car.

  3. 3.

If your toxic trait is also panic-buying a new wardrobe before a trip, let us save you from your pre-MDW shopping spree: These are the four items a celebrity stylist says you should never pack — and half of them are probably in your cart right now.

  4. 4.

This weekend’s priority: knowing exactly what’s happening at our front door. We’re talking ultra-crisp 4K or 2K video and real-time alerts — all powered by battery.*

  5. 5.

The category: Worth Streaming for $500. The clue: This Jeopardy! spinoff returned this week. The answer: What is Pop Culture Jeopardy!? On Monday, season 2 of the Colin Jost-hosted series premiered on Netflix — and in an un-Netflix move, new episodes drop every weekday for a month. Categories include “Millennial Cartoons,” “Movies That Sound Dirty, But Aren’t,” and “Sounds like 6-7.” Which means we might actually know the answers. Well, questions.

    Pop Culture Jeopardy!
  6. 6.

No disrespect to the summer uniform (jorts and Birks), but there are ways to look like a chic grown-up in shorts. These outfit formulas prove it.

  7. 7.

This weekend = grad parties. We’re hitting CVS for a card, a cute setup, and a clutch gift — all in one stop.*

PS: Skimm HQ is off next Friday for the holiday, so the next edition of Weekend Non-Negotiables will be back in your inbox on May 29.

Happy (almost) weekend. “Maycember” madness is real, and my calendar proves it: third grade testing, field day, spirit week, sport seasons, and managing a household that includes two active bunnies. So I’m focused on simplifying wherever I can. Here’s what that looks like this weekend:

  • Making these Korean Beef Bowls. Ever since theSkimm featured this recipe last month, it’s been on repeat. Mostly because it comes together in 20 minutes and my daughter loves it.

  • Shopping for our first big international trip to Japan. That means stocking up on two Uniqlo finds: Wide-leg pants that have the look of trousers but the feel of joggers, and these viral built-in bra tanks. Both work now and will be perfect for layering in Tokyo.

  • Rewatching The Mandalorian ahead of the movie hitting theaters next week. We were already counting down the days, but the early reactions have made us even more excited. Plus, it’s the ideal way to decompress: bunnies hopping around the living room, all of us piled on the couch.

  • Reading What You Are Looking For Is in the Library, which is about a librarian who can sense exactly what each visitor needs — and recommends the perfect book to help them find it. The novel brings me so much comfort, I own a physical copy and a Kindle version.

  • Making the most of my Passenger Princess status. I’ve perfected a five-product makeup routine (SPF, concealer, brow gel, blush, and a lip stain) that I can apply with my hands. It’s key for getting ready on the way to an early soccer game — and for traveling light since everything fits in one tiny pouch.
