It’s gotten very hard lately to assume good faith on the part of Democrats who oppose requiring valid identification to vote. In February this column noted the double standards and unbelievable arguments promoted by the party’s elected officials. One must present ID to attend various Democratic events, but the likes of Rep. Jamie Raskin (D., Md.) argue that asking voters to do the same has suddenly become a potential violation of constitutional
rights—even though it’s been the law in numerous states for years. Flying in the face of evidence and experience, Democrats now claim that large swathes of the American electorate are simply unable to obtain forms of ID. Today brings a fundraising pitch from the Democratic National Committee that doesn’t even make a distinction between legal and illegal voting in opposing Republican efforts to monitor elections. One could argue that the Democrats are just responding to harsh rhetoric from Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters, who recently posted on X: The RNC is aggressively fundraising and deploying staff to battleground states across the country to get out the vote and secure our elections. We’re being disciplined and ruthless to make every dollar count and stop Democrats from retaking Congress in November. In an email to potential donors today, the Democratic National Committee quotes the “disciplined and ruthless” Mr. Gruters and says of Republicans:
