Did you know that A’ja Wilson, one of the best basketball players of all time, recently appeared in an animated movie called GOAT? (She voiced a crocodile.) It’s a fun flourish that staff writer Erin Vanderhoof unfortunately didn’t have space to include in her VF Sports Issue cover story about the Las Vegas Aces MVP, because there was too much else to say.
Vanderhoof got to spend an afternoon with Wilson at the star athlete’s home in Miami, which she shares with her boyfriend, Miami Heat power forward Bam Adebayo. Though her house is under construction, her reputation as a style star is growing, and she reportedly just signed a contract that makes her the highest-paid player in WNBA history, Wilson is still singularly focused on her game. “I want to prove that I’m the best,” she told Vanderhoof. “That allows me to have a great trophy case. It allows me to get rings. And it allows me to just play with peace.” What’s that we said about GOATs?
