Weekly Recap

As we continue wrapping up regular season competition, we also continue recognizing the seniors who have helped shape our programs and school community over the past four years. Senior Nights always bring a mix of pride, gratitude, and emotion as we celebrate the leadership, commitment, and memories these student-athletes have given to South County. This week we honored our seniors from Girls Tennis, Boys Lacrosse, Boys Soccer, and Baseball. We are incredibly thankful for all they have contributed and excited to see what lies ahead for each of them after South County.

Baseball faced a challenging week with three games against district opponents, falling in both contests against Lake Braddock as well as a make-up game against Alexandria City. While the results have not always reflected it, the Stallions have competed hard and kept themselves in games throughout the season. The team now looks to finish tuning up with a pair of games against Robinson next week before district tournament play begins.

Softball dropped both games in their series against Lake Braddock, locking the Stallions into the #3 seed heading into the district tournament. The team will close out the regular season next week with a pair of games against Robinson as they prepare for postseason play.

Boys Lacrosse battled through a pair of tough, physical matchups this week. The Stallions opened with a hard-fought game against West Potomac before returning home for Senior Night against Lake Braddock, where they ran into another strong opponent.

Girls Lacrosse also dropped both outings this week but continues to show tremendous growth as the season progresses. The Stallions had an especially competitive back-and-forth battle with a strong Lake Braddock squad and continue building confidence heading toward the postseason.

Girls Tennis wrapped up their season with matches against West Potomac and Lake Braddock. While the team came up short in both contests, the growth shown by the younger players throughout the season was impressive, and the program saw a great deal of individual development and success.

Boys Tennis picked up a strong win over West Potomac before battling Lake Braddock in a thrilling 5-4 match that came down to the final doubles contest of the day. The Stallions enter next week’s regional tournament as the #4 seed.

Girls Soccer continued to battle through a stretch of close contests, dropping one-goal games to both West Potomac and Lake Braddock. Despite entering the district tournament as the #7 seed, the Stallions have been competitive in every match this season and hope to catch momentum at the right time.

Boys Soccer earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against West Potomac before hosting Lake Braddock for an exciting Senior Night matchup. The Stallions led 2-1 and controlled much of the action before the Bruins capitalized on a difficult stretch in the second half, scoring three unanswered goals to secure a 5-2 victory.

Another week of determination, resilience, and pride from our Stallions as teams prepare for postseason competition.

Crew Brings Home More Gold

Crew Gold Medal Images first and second four

Crew delivered an outstanding performance at the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championships this weekend, bringing home multiple medals and state titles while qualifying several boats for the SRAA Scholastic National Championships in Oak Ridge, Tennessee in two weeks. The Men’s Junior Eight earned Bronze Medals, while the Women’s Junior Eight and Women’s First Four each captured Silver Medals and secured national qualifying spots. The Men’s Second Four continued their incredible dominance, claiming their third consecutive state championship and bringing the trophy back to South County once again. The Men’s First Four also repeated as State Champions, winning the Matthews Challenge Cup for the second straight year while decisively qualifying for nationals. An incredible accomplishment for our Crew program and another proud moment for South County Athletics.

Concession Stand Volunteers

Volunteers Needed — Support Our Sports Programs! Students and families are encouraged to sign up to volunteer at the concession stands during our home sporting events. This is a great opportunity for students to earn required volunteer hours while gaining valuable experience, and for families to directly support our athletic programs and student-athletes. Concessions play an important role in funding and sustaining our sports teams, and every shift makes a difference. Whether you can help for one game or multiple events, your time and support are greatly appreciated.
