Good morning Wentyl,

Nearly 400 childcare services across New South Wales are not meeting national quality standards, with some not assessed since 2019.

More than one in five of the centres “working towards” quality standards have not been given a new rating since 2023.

And only 163 out of the 390 centres not meeting standards have been assessed in the past year, according to the latest data from the national childcare authority as of January 2026.

Parents say these poor ratings and delayed assessments are scaring them away from childcare, as just half of all children nationally aged 0-5 are in government-subsidised care.
