The true measure of a leader is how they treat those who can do nothing for them.

Another busy and competitive week for our Stallions, with several strong performances, close contests, and continued growth across our programs.
Baseball went 1-1 on the week with a rainout on Friday. The Stallions opened by hosting West Potomac in a weather make-up game and completed the series sweep with a 5-3 win. They returned Tuesday against Alexandria City but fell behind early and couldn’t recover, dropping the game 6-2. The second matchup with AC was postponed and will be rescheduled.
Softball had an explosive week at the plate paired with strong pitching, sweeping Alexandria City 11-0 and 13-5. The Stallions then traveled to Oakton for a tight out-of-district matchup, coming up just short in a 7-8 battle.
Crew competed Saturday in their final regular season VASRA regatta at Sandy Run. Despite cold and cloudy conditions, all varsity boats advanced to finals. Both Men’s Varsity 4 boats captured first place finishes, while the Women’s Junior 8 placed second in a tightly contested race. The Men’s Junior 8 and Novice 4 boats each earned third-place finishes in strong efforts.
Boys Soccer split their district games this week. They traveled to Alexandria City and were tied 1-1 for much of the match before conceding a late goal in a 2-1 loss. The Stallions bounced back at home Thursday with a 1-0 win over Robinson, scoring midway through the first half and holding strong defensively.
Girls Soccer dropped a pair of close district contests. Against Alexandria City, the Stallions took an early lead and controlled much of the match before conceding twice in the final 10 minutes to fall 2-1. They followed with another competitive effort at Robinson, staying within reach before a late second half goal secured a 2-0 result for the Rams.
Boys Lacrosse had a full week, including hosting the second day of their annual spring tournament. They opened against Robinson, competing hard against a top program before falling 17-2. The Stallions then traveled to West Springfield and battled in a tight contest, ultimately losing 15-12. They closed the week on a high note Saturday with a 10-4 win over South Lakes, jumping out early and maintaining control throughout despite cold and rainy conditions.
Girls Lacrosse faced two challenging matchups this week. They traveled to Robinson and competed hard, then returned home Friday for a back-and-forth battle against West Springfield. In a game featuring multiple lead changes, the Stallions showed strong teamwork and resilience but came up just short, 12-11.
Boys Tennis continued their second pass through district play with another strong showing. They dominated Alexandria City 9-0 and then battled Robinson in a match that came down to the final tiebreaker, with the Rams narrowly edging out a 5-4 win.
Girls Tennis continues to grow and improve with each match. While they dropped contests to Alexandria City and Robinson this week, both matches were significantly closer than earlier meetings, highlighting the team’s development and competitiveness.
Great effort across all programs as our Stallions continue to compete, improve, and represent South County with pride.

This past weekend the South County Combined Drumline earned a bronze medal at the Winter Guard International World Championships in Dayton Ohio with a score of 91.538. This is the first time the ensemble has medaled at this event. They are only the 3rd FCPS ensemble to earn a medal at World Championships. This group has students from South County, Hayfield, and West Potomac who have been working on their production since just before Thanksgiving. This year’s show was entitled “Redacted”. Throughout the show different objects are covered, obscured or taken away entirely. The director, Grant Butters, would like to thank the staff that have worked relentlessly to push the ensemble to this achievement: Merold Saffa, Holden Brettell, Will Egger, Raatib Rahman, and Charlie Gorham. Please take a second to celebrate this awesome group of students and check out their final performance here.
With lead roles being played by Audrey Lanter (Cinderella) and Vincent Snow (Prince Topher) the South County Theatre completed an incredible run of their spring musical this week. Highlighted by a Princess Party at the Saturday Matinee and an emotional recognition of their senior's at the end of Saturday evening's show, this is certainly one that will be remembered fondly!
The South County Athletic Training Staff will be hosting a sports physical night on Thursday, May 7th from 5:30 to 7:30pm. The cost is $50 per athlete and all proceeds go to support our athletic training program. Sign up ahead of time to ensure your spot at https://forms.gle/8MenLtRKBb3arpVw5
