Good afternoon. It’s Tuesday, April 21.

In today's newsletter:

  • ICE agents arrested and briefly detained a pregnant 25-year-old woman at an Eagle River women’s prison last month, before her lawyers won her temporary release.

  • Alaska State Troopers arrested a Willow woman in connection with 25 sled dogs found dead last week on a property in the Caswell Lakes area.

  • A crime package recently unveiled by a state Senate committee includes a measure to raise the age of consent, which advocates have argued should move forward as standalone legislation.

Some buildings in Anchorage have experienced a multitude of past lives. Historian David Reamer spotlighted one such location in his latest column: 3300 Spenard Road. For more than 75 years, it has been home to everything from family operations to the legendary Fly By Night Club, operated by the singular Mr. Whitekeys. It's also housed the TapRoot, Hank's Hardware, the Hangar 18 arcade and more.

Anchorage weather
It's mostly sunny today with a high around 46 degrees. Looking ahead, we can expect rainy conditions over the next couple days as daytime highs remain in the mid-40s.

Here’s what else is making headlines in Alaska today.
