Edison Pyramid Art Show
Friday evening, several Rose Hill Elementary students had their artwork featured at the Edison Pyramid Art Show. This special event brings together students from pyramid elementary schools, Twain Middle School, and Edison High School to showcase pieces that meet the high standards of the established rubric.
We are incredibly proud of the talent and creativity on display! A special thank you to our art teachers, Mr. Irby and Mr. Reyes, for the outstanding work they do each day—nurturing our students’ artistic growth, strengthening their skills, and introducing them to a wide range of artistic styles and experiences.
Walk, Bike, or Roll Day is coming!

Mark your calendars for the spring Walk, Bike, or Roll Day Wednesday morning, May 6. We will be meeting in two different places; the Rose Hill Shopping Center, by the Dollar Tree; or Sturbridge Place. We will leave those places by 8:45am so be sure to be there by then! Parents and siblings are encouraged to join us! Ms. Edwards plans on being at the Rose Hill Shopping Center and this is usually a very large group. We are awaiting confirmation from FCPD if they are able to escort us and if they are not, we may need some parents to help ensure our kids are safe. You can check out the flyer here.
Upcoming Assessments for RHES Students
Students will be participating in spring assessments based on their grade level. This includes summative assessments like Standards of Learning (SOL) tests, which measure what a student knows, and progress assessments like Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests, which measure where they are in their learning.
FCPS encourages all families to support their students in taking these tests. Virginia requires schools to test at least 95% of students on SOLs, so when families choose not to participate in testing, it can impact a school’s accreditation, accountability ratings, and ability to measure student progress accurately.
Parents and caregivers can help their children perform their best on these tests by reminding them to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and the cell phone policy still applies during testing season.
It is important that students attend school on scheduled testing dates. If you are aware of a conflict that may cause your student to miss a test, please notify us as soon as possible.

Month of the Military Child Celebration
Our school community came together Wednesday morning to celebrate the Month of the Military Child with a heartfelt event honoring the many students and families connected to military service. With more than 70 families and numerous staff members affiliated with the military, it was a meaningful opportunity to gather in a spirit of connection and camaraderie. Families enjoyed donuts and refreshments while participating in hands-on craft stations, including creating special rocks to take home or leave in our school garden as a lasting symbol of their strength and resilience. A special thank you goes to our parent liaison, Kate Pennington—wife of a retired Navy serviceman—for her thoughtful coordination of this event. We are also deeply grateful to our PTA and the many community members whose generous contributions made this celebration possible.
Updates to 2026-27 School Year Calendar
The School Board voted to direct the superintendent to designate Veterans Day as a standard instructional day for the 2026-27 school year. Because this day was added, the 2026-27 school year will now end for students on Wednesday, June 16, 2027. Find additional information on BoardDocs. View the updated complete school year calendar on FCPS’ website.
The last day of school for the current school year — Wednesday, June 17, 2026 — has not changed.
RHES Educators are Celebrated!

We recently celebrated 4th grade teachers Megan Hook and Sam Whitelaw, who received the Cares of the Month award. This is a huge honor! A Rose Hill parent submitted an FCPS Cares highlighting what incredible teachers they are and the difference they are making on their child. You can read the full submission here (scroll down to Region 3). The team gathered together with FCPS HR representatives to have Crumbl cookies and honor their work. If you would like to submit an FCPS Cares, you can do so by clicking here.
