April 17 - News and Notes!
Dear Rolling Valley Families,
What a full and exciting week! We loved celebrating our Military Connected Students during Purple Up Spirit Week. A big shoutout to Ms. Amy LaCrosse for organizing and facilitating such meaningful activities, and thank you to everyone who joined in the spirit all week long.
We kicked things off on Monday with a schoolwide assembly featuring Joe Romano. We are grateful to our wonderful PTA for sponsoring this experience and giving our students the opportunity to enjoy an engaging presentation focused on personal character.
One of the highlights of the week was an annual favorite activity, music therapy, where students in our ID and IDS classrooms enjoyed music, singing, and joyful connection together.
Thank you to all the families who joined us for STEAM Night. There were so many hands on, engaging activities, and it was wonderful to see students excited to participate and eager to return. We appreciate the leadership of our coaches, Suzy Penn, Holly Tate, and Krystyn Carey, along with all staff and parents who made this event possible.
We wrapped up the week with a warm but memorable field trip to Little Feet. Despite the heat, the smiles and laughter made it all worthwhile.
As a reminder, there will be no school on Tuesday, April 21 due to voting. Additionally, the previously scheduled early release on Wednesday, April 22 has been canceled, and it will now be a full school day.
Have a great weekend!
Veronica Del Bagno
Rolling Valley Elementary School Principal

Smart Watch - Reminder
This is a friendly reminder about student use of Smart Watches during the school day. Recently, we have seen an increase in students using their watches to contact home when they are not feeling well or engaging in back and forth messaging during instructional time. To support a focused learning environment and consistent communication practices, we ask for your partnership in following the expectations outlined in our 2025–2026 Parent Handbook.
If your child wears a Smart Watch to school, it must be set to airplane mode or disconnected from the internet while they are in the building. Students should not be using watches to communicate during the school day. If a student is not feeling well, our staff is always here to help along with access to our clinic and will contact you as needed.
Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a safe and distraction free learning environment.

LAMBMOWERS!
As we continue to bring engaging and unique learning experiences to our school, we are excited to share that we are preparing a special outdoor space near Door 9 as part of an upcoming visit from lambs. These “lambmowers” will help us care for our green spaces in a fun and environmentally friendly way.
You may notice small flags placed in the grass in this area. These flags are marking sections where we are intentionally allowing the grass to grow in preparation for the lambs’ arrival.
We ask for your support in reminding students to respect these markers by not disturbing or removing the flags and by staying out of the designated areas. This will help ensure the space is ready and safe for this special experience.
Thank you for helping us care for our school grounds and for supporting this exciting opportunity for our students.

Full-Time AAP Orientation
Families,
We know some of you are in the process of determining the best placement to meet your students’ advanced academic needs for next school year (Local Full-Time AAP, center-based Full-Time AAP, or deferring Full-Time AAP services and accessing Part-Time AAP services instead).
To help you determine what is best for your student, schools where your student can access Full-Time AAP services hold orientations to provide information on more school-specific topics.
Our school, Rolling Valley Elementary, will hold an orientation on Thursday, April 30, from 5:30- 6:30 pm in the library. We will explain how we implement our Full Time Advanced Academics plan, and the unique and exciting opportunities we offer our students at Rolling Valley. You will have a chance to meet some of the staff and ask more personalized questions.
We look forward to meeting with you! Please reach out to Krystyn Carey with any questions- krcarey@fcps.edu.
We hope that you can join us!
Sincerely,
Veronica Del Bagno, Principal
Krystyn Carey, Advanced Academics Resource Teacher

Camp Details:
Spartan Volleyball Camp is designed and has a session for athletes of all skill levels who are eager to enhance their game in a challenging and supportive environment. Camp sessions are structured by age and skill level to ensure every player receives personalized instruction and the best opportunity for growth.
Campers will have the unique opportunity to train with experienced high school coaches from across the country, as well as current college athletes. Campers in Session A and B will also get to work with the high school athletes from the Virginia State Champions team! Sessions will include individual skill development, group instruction, and competitive tournament play, all designed to help players refine their technique, build confidence, and elevate their overall performance.
Session C is ONLY for advanced players. Unfortunately, we do not have a session for rising 10th-12th graders who are new to volleyball or who only have freshmen team level experience and/or rec volleyball experience. Athletes attending Session C must have played on their high school Varsity or JV team or are currently playing on a competitive club team. If you are signing up for Session C, the expectation is that you are playing volleyball at or close to the Varsity level. Most rising 9th graders should be attending session B.
