Today we’ve rounded up the best things we bought last month. Plus:

Our March favorites

A moment of reflection, if you’ll permit us: March was a month full of firsts here at Wirecutter. We bought a bunch of suspicious skin care and makeup online and then hired a lab to test their authenticity. (Spoiler: The world of counterfeit beauty is shockingly pervasive.) We debuted a brand-new guide to chic sneakers — after spending several weeks jaunting across town and pattering around the house in more than 50 stylish pairs. And we crowned our inaugural Best New Picks winners, the 71 products from last year that we couldn’t stop recommending to our friends and family.

As your newsletters editors, we lived and breathed all of that coverage, so, perhaps unsurprisingly, a few special things landed in our own carts.

These are the Wirecutter-approved picks that we’ve personally been loving lately:

I recently bought this very stylish Coach bucket bag, because it was (and still is!) 60% off. It’s only been a few days, but it has already proven to be the perfect everyday bag. I wore it as a cross-body on top of my giant winter coat, and the adjustable strap saved me from the overstimulation of feeling it constantly slip off my shoulder. I’ve loaded it up with my laptop, water bottle, and goodies from a Target run, and I never felt weighed down. And on an unseasonably warm, coat-free day (finally), I slung it on its shortest length as a true shoulder bag, styled with a T-shirt and jeans, and felt oh-so-chic.

This time of year, when it goes from cold to hot to cold again quickly, I’m a huge fan of a classic khaki trench coat to add elegance to even the lowliest of outfits. (See: my morning dog-walking uniform of sweats and Birkenstock clogs.) The thing is, I’m nearly 5-foot-8 with broad shoulders, so most trench coat arms always hit a bit too far above my wrist to be cool and looks … ill-fitting. This Gap one, which comes in many sizes — including tall! — has blessedly solved that problem. Our testers did prefer the quality and details of Uniqlo’s trench, but I really appreciate the oversize fit of Gap’s. Both are, in my opinion, a steal at under $200.

I never thought I’d put my pits on the record, but here we go: I picked up this antiperspirant that kept our beauty testers “shockingly dry” during everything from desert hikes in the Arizona heat to high-stakes work presentations. I’m pleased to add another glowing testimony. This gel kept me smelling fresh as I pulsed my way through sweaty sculpt classes and during my first outdoor run of the year. Its fresh baby powder scent is seemingly unflappable, and it’s also the rare antiperspirant that doesn’t irritate my skin.

My bookish boyfriend loves to whittle away the evening flipping through yellow-stained paperbacks. I, on the other hand, prefer to be in a deep slumber by 10 p.m. I recently bought this Wirecutter-beloved reading light to appease both of our nighttime habits. It emanates a warm glow around just enough space that he can read in bed to his heart’s content, while still being dim enough that I — mere inches away — can nestle up next to him without sacrificing my precious rest. A win for us both, truly.

When inspiration struck to mount invisible bookshelves on my bedroom walls, I knew this job required something better than the measly screwdrivers I had lying around. Because I live in a one-bedroom, I didn’t want a huge, chunky power tool. This satisfyingly compact electric screwdriver is not only a breeze to maneuver, but its lightweight, sleek design makes it easy to stow away.
