Losing 20kg, coming off antidepressants, doing a wardrobe overhaul or even getting close to a having a six pack. These are just some of the things everyday Aussies are achieving post marriage split in a phenomenon dubbed ‘The Divorce Effect’.
This in-depth report by Ruby Kraner-Tucci is the fifth and final part of our series exploring everything to do with divorce. However, the interest has been significant, so we will continue to cover this topic that affects so many of us (or is something we worry could happen).

Meanwhile, the response to our aged care investigation last week was overwhelming. I asked you to write in with your thoughts about
Julie Cross’ piece on how one of the country's largest aged care providers was trialling putting hot breakfasts and sweet treats behind a paywall – a decision that was
later partly reversed due to backlash.
One email that came through said “What an absolute disgrace. The standard of aged care is only for the benefit of investors in the industry. Have some compassion for people who have worked for this great country.” Another person wrote: “I used to work in the aged care system, things haven't changed really it seems. The elderly are still getting ripped off, especially those who can't afford it." Others
described it as “disgusting.” Thanks so much for taking the time to write in. Lastly,
this special feature by Sarah Booth about White Island volcano survivor Marie Browitt, who lost her husband and youngest daughter in the eruption, is a must read.
At her darkest moments in her empty home, Ms Browitt wanted to die. But she battled through her grief for her surviving daughter Stephanie, who was in hospital with horrific burns. “I had to keep myself going,” Ms Browitt says in her first time speaking to the media. “It’s amazing isn’t it, how the love of a family member can change everything in you?” You can read the powerful piece here.
Have a great week.
