Blenheim Boulevard Update  -  March 22, 2026

Improved Blenheim Boulevard Coming Soon

Construction on the Blenheim Boulevard Multimodal Improvements project is expected to start this summer! The boulevard is an important corridor in Fairfax City, connecting residential neighborhoods, the library, a community center, parkland, schools, a police station, religious institutions, a historic site, and commercial properties.

The project began in earnest in 2015, but the original concept of an improved boulevard dates back to 2005. Twenty-one years ago!

This long-awaited project will make the boulevard safer and more enjoyable for walkers, cyclists, bus riders, and drivers. Improvements include:

  • New sidewalks on both sides of the road

  • Crosswalk and intersection improvements

  • A two-way cycle track

  • Upgraded bus stops and shelters between Layton Hall Drive and Ridge Avenue

  • Two multimodal hubs with bikeshare stations

  • Additional lanes for vehicles turning onto side streets

  • New lighting, landscaping, and signage to enhance the boulevard between Old Town Fairfax and Fairfax Circle

The city council will consider awarding a construction contract for the project on April 28.

The project team will communicate with residents once more details about the construction schedule are available. Learn more about the project at fairfaxva.gov/BlenheimBlvd.
