Matomo Analytics - The accurate ethical web analytics platform |
This release includes many updates and helps you separate AI activity from real human visits giving you clearer insights into how AI systems interact with your website.
It includes new AI Chatbots Overview and Over Time reports, as well as a Total AI Chatbots Requests metric in the All Websites dashboard.
You’ll find more details about this feature below.
Already using Matomo Cloud? These capabilities have already been available in your platform for the past few weeks.

Track (and understand) AI Chatbot traffic |
AI tools now crawl, read, and use website content at scale.
Some send visitors to your site (AI referrals), while others access your content directly to generate answers (AI chatbots) or perform automated actions (AI agents).
When this activity appears in analytics, it can look like human traffic and make your reporting harder to interpret.
Matomo’s new AI Chatbot report (under the dedicated AI Assistants report) give you a dedicated view of chatbot activity, so you can monitor automated traffic alongside human visits and interpret your data with more confidence. |
Setup is supported for WordPress, Cloudflare, and Amazon CloudFront, with step by step guides to help you get started.

We are also preparing a few more updates for the coming weeks:
1-Click CNIL configuration
We are finalising a setup designed to help you configure Matomo more easily in line with the new CNIL expectations. It is intended to reduce guesswork when setting up or reviewing your privacy configuration.
Crash Analytics for Cloud
Crash Analytics is now in early beta for a small group of invited Matomo Cloud customers. We're collecting feedback from an initial group of invited customers before any broader rollout.
Design improvements
We’re also working on a few UI and general design improvements, including updates to Segment Management and the Calendar component. We can’t wait to show you.
Stay tuned :)! |
AI: Not all traffic is human anymore |
A growing share of website traffic now comes from AI assistants, crawlers, and automated tools. From your server's perspective, it all looks the same. From a reporting perspective, the difference matters a lot. |
Our latest article, From Humans to AI Agents: Understanding the New Web Traffic, breaks down the different types of AI-driven traffic, explains why they are hard to distinguish, and shows how to read your analytics more accurately as this trend grows.
