Storm leaves over 100K without power in New England

Over 100,000 people across New England are without power as a powerful storm sweeps through the region, bringing heavy wind and and rain overnight.

In Massachusetts, around 64,000 customers were without power as of early Tuesday morning.

33,000 people in Connecticut were in the dark as well, in addition to 15,000 in Rhode Island and 20,000 in Maine.

Winds are dropping down — but a major cooldown is on deck

The sun will be a sight for sore eyes today after Monday’s rainy, gloomy weather.

In fact, the cold front that brought the heavy rain, strong winds and localized flooding is moving east, which will allow our skies to gradually clear to see the sun on this St. Patrick’s Day.

There’s an outside chance that a sprinkle or flurry could develop this morning, but overall, most areas will be dry on Tuesday. Say goodbye to the 60s, too! Afternoon temperatures will be in the low to mid 40s. Yikes! That’s quite a change.

Live updates: Israel says it killed a top Iranian security official and the Basij force chief

Israel’s defense minister said Tuesday that the military killed top Iranian security official Ali Larijani in an overnight strike. The military also announced it killed Gen. Gholam Reza Soleimani, the head of the Revolutionary Guard’s all-volunteer Basij force.

Iranian state media did not immediately confirm either death.

Also on Tuesday, a drone attack in the United Arab Emirates sparked a fire at an oil tank farm in Fujairah, an emirate on the country’s east coast with the Gulf of Oman that has been repeatedly targeted, the state-run WAM news agency reported. It said no one was injured in the blast.

Gov. Healey signs executive order to bring more power into Massachusetts

Gov. Maura Healey announced Monday she has signed an executive order to bring significantly more power into Massachusetts over the next decade.

During a 12:15 p.m. press conference at Lynch Elementary School in Winchester, Healey said she would be signing an executive order to bring 10 new gigawatts of power into the Bay State by 2035.

“That’s enough to power two million homes, remember we have seven million residents, so two million homes that’s a big deal,” Healey said.

Human remains found buried under garage floor in Tyngsborough

Investigators found human remains buried under a garage floor in Tyngsborough, Massachusetts, after a tipster reported a potential murder and authorities are working to identify the victim.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said an investigation began on March 10 when a tipster called Nashua, New Hampshire police with information about a possible murder. The tipster said a friend of his, identified as Shawn Sullivan, claimed to have shot and killed a woman named Jill and buried her body in the garage of his Tyngsborough, Massachusetts, home, around January 2025.

Investigators descended upon the home on Audrey Avenue and found a section of the garage floor that had been patched. Ryan said using radar, they determined something was underneath. After digging up the area, they recovered a plastic bag that contained human remains.

Trump said he spoke to a former president about bombing Iran. Four denials suggest otherwise.

President Donald Trump told reporters Monday that one of his predecessors told him he wished he had been the one to bomb Iran.

It appears he did not speak to any of the four former presidents.

An aide for George W. Bush told NBC News that “they haven’t been in touch,” while an aide to Bill Clinton told NBC News that whoever Trump was referring to was not Clinton.
