John Taylor "> | | | It’s Saturday, March 14, and this cartoon nails what this past week felt like here in the Mid-Atlantic. With that in mind, stay safe and warm this weekend, Midwest friends. Today, we’re taking a break from answering your questions. (We’ll get back to those next weekend.) This is something we’re going to try semiregularly this year — pulling back the curtain to show you the most-read stories from The 7. A few of these stories that surfaced surprised me — I find it all really interesting. Do you? Let me know. | An oncologist recommended what to eat to lower your cancer risk. | - Originally published: Feb. 16
- What to know: Add more fruits and vegetables to your diet, prioritize eating whole grains, and avoid red and processed meat and sugary drinks. It’s not a silver bullet, but making these deliberate choices can lower the risk of getting cancer.

 | Even a cardiologist regularly leaves room for dessert. | - Originally published: Feb. 11
- What to know: Dariush Mozaffarian has become a leader in the food-is-medicine movement. In his own life, he avoids ultra-processed foods, embraces “heart healthy” fats (from nuts and dark-meat fish, for instance), eats a light lunch, and almost never has red meat at home. (See his full meal plan here.) And he recommends ice cream (with natural toppings) or a smoothie for dessert.
 | A missing Minneapolis girl was seen in ICE detention, school officials said. | - Originally published: Feb. 5
- What to know: A fifth-grade student stopped showing up at school during the Trump administration’s massive immigration operation. But she wasn’t hiding from ICE agents — she was being detained. Another student from her school who had been released from the Texas detention center confirmed to concerned school officials that the girl and her family were being held there.
 | You’re the reason your home is disorganized. | - Originally published: Jan. 12
- What to know: We talked to professional home organizers who are here to help — and show you where you’re going wrong. Just a few of their tips: Start sorting before buying bins and buckets, and feel safe getting rid of those old clothes that don’t fit.
