Everything There Is to Know About Sunday’s Oscars |
It’s the final countdown.
I’m Rebecca Ford, and now that we’re just two days away from the Oscars, there’s not much more to say. We’ve predicted the winners. We’ve discussed every race at length on Little Gold Men. I also spoke to the show’s executive producer Katy Mullan about her plans for this year’s show—including how they’ll spotlight the new casting category, and why they’re only featuring two best-song performances.
Mullan also told me her perspective on just how political winners should get in their acceptance speeches. The conflict in Iran is weighing heavily on everyone’s minds, and I’ve been curious whether any winners will speak out onstage. “We absolutely support the individual’s right to express their viewpoint. That’s what the Oscars is about: It’s about filmmaking and different perspectives and different viewpoints,” Mullan told me. “The other part of it is that it’s a night that is about celebration, and we are uplifting a lot of voices. So I think it’s just that balance between creative expression and being respectful.”
If you’re looking for more ways to get excited for the big game on Sunday, we’ve got you covered. Trying to catch up on all the Oscar-nominated documentaries? We know all about them. How about all 15 nominated short films? We’ve got that too. We have a list of the best Oscar parties going on this week as well, but let’s face it: The best party of Oscar night is the Vanity Fair party, which this year is moving to a new location at LACMA. Be sure to tune in to our livestream for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party right after the show, to see all the stars celebrating their big wins (and the end of this very long—and exciting—season). |
