With the 2026 Iditarod launching this weekend, it's time to meet the mushers in this year's race. Thirty-four are competing in this year's Iditarod, while another three are participating as part of the new Expedition Class.
The Iditarod is a main event of this weekend in Anchorage, but it's not the only fun thing to do around town. Fur Rondy is in its second weekend, and the Tour of Anchorage is on Sunday. Plus, there are plenty of First Friday happenings. Check out some of this weekend's highlights here. |

Anchorage weather
It's cloudy today with a high around 28 degrees, and the forecast calls for snow through the day and overnight. Looking ahead to the weekend, we can expect more snow on Saturday and mostly cloudy skies on Sunday. Daytime temperatures will start out in the 20s but drop back into the low teens over the next several days.
Here's what else is making headlines in Alaska today.
