Last week was cut a day short but another snow day - hopefully our last for the year! Monday's snow was great for building snowmen and sledding at Lemon Road! It was great seeing so many families there.
On Thursday evening, I represented Lemon Road as we were recognized for celebrating 70 years! It was a fantastic evening being with colleagues celebrating many years of education and impacting our future. Be sure to order a commemorative 70th Birthday LRES Shirt here! Proceeds will go to purchasing new tents that were ruined by the snow in February.
Last week our 2nd Grade Classes welcomed George Mason University into their math classes as a hands-on extension to their current geometry unit. Fourth grade classes will also welcome this learning opportunity in the next few weeks.
Kindergarten, grade 1, and grade 3 students attended a field trip to the Alden Theater to see the Honolulu Theater for Youth put on "The Great Race: The Story of the Chinese Zodiac" an origin story and Chinese folktale. Soon, our 6th grade will attend First Woman LLC's production of "Hero: The Boy from Troy" about the civil rights movement.
On Thursday, members of our staff safety team attended an annual training on safety practices and procedures. We appreciate these opportunities to learn new skills and reinforce old practices. On Friday, we saw many show off their crazy hair to celebrate February birthdays and we welcomed Merrifield Orthodontics to our 2nd grade classrooms. Another local pediatric dentist will be vising K, 1, and 3rd grade classrooms soon!
Thank you for your involvement, engagement, and partnership!
The Lemon Road staff are excited to play in the LRES Staff Volleyball Game on Friday, March 13 at Marshall High School. The staff playing in the game are wearing special 70th Birthday Lemon Road shirts with the neon logo above! If any Lemon Road students, staff, or family members want to purchase the shirt to wear to the big game or for spring spirit wear, orders will be accepted through Wednesday, March 4 for delivery before the game. Here is the link to place an order for a shirt and purchase tickets for the volleyball game! Proceeds from shirt orders will go towards replacing our outdoor tents used for lunch, outdoor learning, and events!

We welcome back Victor O'Neill Studios to take professional pictures of all our clubs, spring portraits of individual students, a sixth grade panoramic photo, and a photo of our staff on Friday, March 13. Be on the lookout for a sign up genius for parent volunteers this day - we need several! Here are a few reminders and links to help the day go smoothly:
- Students that are in the SCA, Patrols, Eco Defense Squad, News Crew, Student Ambassadors, Band, Strings, Chorus, or other school clubs must wear or bring their polo for participation in the club photos
- Any student that has not taken a professional picture this year will have their portait taken for the yearbook
- Any parent may request their child take a portrait by completing this form and/or let your child's teacher know
- Click this link to purchase the 6th grade panoramic photo as a keepsake
Your student's online gallery will be available approximately one week after picture day. If you have any questions leading up to picture day, please reach out to Victor O’Neill Studios by emailing Underclass@vosphoto.com.
Have you registered to volunteer through the Volunteer FCPS website ? If so, we hope you can support two important learning spaces in our school — the library and art room!
Library Volunteers: Help keep our shelves organized and ready for student readers! Volunteers are asked to commit to one 30-minute shift per week. After a brief initial meeting with Ms. Burke, you may come in at any time during the school day that fits your schedule. To get started, please contact Ms. Burke at goburke@fcps.edu to set up a 15-minute orientation meeting.
Art Room Volunteers: We are also seeking volunteers to assist during art classes, especially for grades 1–3. Volunteers will help distribute and collect folders, art supplies, and artwork, and may support students with simple art skills. If you’re interested or have questions, please contact Ms. Norton at ksnorton@fcps.edu.
Thank you for supporting our students and helping our programs thrive!
