 Centreville Students, Families, and Community,
What a tremendous weekend to be a Wildcat! Congratulations to our Girls’ Basketball Team on winning the Northern Region Championship on Friday night! Every time I watch this team compete, I’m struck not just by their talent, but by the way they play the game: disciplined, unselfish, and completely committed to one another. They encourage and support each other on every possession, and they represent themselves and the Centreville community with pride and class. They are a true example of what we hope all of our student-athletes embody. I hope you’ll come out Tuesday evening to cheer them on as they begin their run in the State Tournament. Let’s pack the stands and show them our Wildcat spirit!
It’s hard to believe, but we are now just four weeks away from the end of the third quarter. As the weather begins to warm and we start to see the light at the end of the school year tunnel, it can be tempting to look too far ahead. However, this stretch of the year is critically important. I want to encourage all of our students to remain focused and diligent in their academic efforts. That means attending school consistently and on time, staying organized with weekly assignments and responsibilities, and seeking support from teachers, counselors, and parents when needed. Small, consistent efforts each day make a big difference over time.
Speaking of the end of the year, in the coming weeks we will begin sharing important information regarding End-of-Year SOL tests and AP Exams. These assessments matter. SOLs are part of graduation requirements, and AP Exams provide valuable opportunities for students to earn college credit. Beyond that, student success on these exams directly reflects our collective success as a school community. Together, we will continue working to provide the very best environment for our students to feel prepared, confident, and supported.
Finally, our PTSA is continuing to look for ways to increase engagement across our community. The deadline to volunteer for the Class of 2026 All Night Grad Party has been extended. Thank you to those who have already stepped forward! We are also excited to launch what we hope will become a new Centreville tradition: the CVHS Thrift Sale on Saturday, April 11, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the main entrance. Item drop-off will be accepted Friday, April 10, from 3:00–7:00 p.m., and again Saturday beginning at 7:00 a.m. We are looking for both student and parent volunteers to assist during these times. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Doug Brookbank at doug.brookbank@mg2.com or Catalina Ruiz at treasurer@cvhsptsa.org.
Thank you, and Go Wildcats!

March 7 - Food For Neighbors Red Bag Event: Centreville High School is proud to partner with Food For Neighbors (FFN) to help feed our local students who deal with food insecurity because even in a county as wealthy as Fairfax, one in four kids in our area are struggling with hunger. Studies show that when adolescents are fed positive outcomes include increased enrollment in challenging courses, higher graduation rate, improved mental and physical health, a decrease in disruptive behaviors and increased participation in after-school activities".
Food For Neighbors is a local organization addressing this problem by collecting food from our community via their Red Bag Program and donating directly to our local schools. The food is then distributed to the students every week through our food pantry.

The fair will be open to the public during the Open House on Sunday, March 15, from 1:00–3:00 p.m., and we encourage our Centreville community to stop by, view the impressive project displays, and congratulate our student participants. This year, 26 CVHS students competed in our school Science Fair, presenting 15 projects across seven categories, with first- and second-place winners advancing to regionals. With more than 250 judges evaluating projects in fields ranging from astronomy to biomedical engineering, this is an incredible opportunity for our Wildcats to showcase their innovation and research skills. Innovation on Display: AEGIS 5243 Robot Reveal: The Centreville Robotics Team, AEGIS 5243, proudly hosted its Robot Reveal Event, showcasing the incredible work students have accomplished so far this season and formally unveiling their competition robot. Team members confidently presented their design process, engineering decisions, and competition goals while engaging in thoughtful conversations with parents, coaches, and company sponsors. This event highlighted the high-level problem-solving, collaboration, and technical skills our students apply every day. We extend our sincere thanks to our dedicated coaches, supportive families, and generous sponsors for their continued commitment to AEGIS 5243 and our students’ success.
Student Voices in Action: Literature Circles Bring Learning to Life: In Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Walker’s English 12 classes, students engaged in Literature Circles as part of their “Change and Transition” unit. Through clearly defined roles such as Clarifier, Connector, and Question Master, students led thoughtful discussions, analyzed complex texts, and made meaningful connections. This collaborative work reflects our instructional goal of engaging students in high-level academic tasks that promote critical thinking and strong academic discourse. We are proud of our teachers for designing powerful learning experiences and of our students for rising to the challenge.

Celebrating the Power of School Breakfast: Multiple studies show that school breakfast is important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Also, students who eat school breakfast consume more fruit and fiber than their peers. This National School Breakfast Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services reminds families that they are dedicated to providing flavorful, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. New menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback. Would you like to know what’s for breakfast? View Nutrition Services’ printable menus.
Become Unskippable: Share the Facts About Fentanyl With Teens: Talking with teens about the facts of fentanyl is a conversation you can’t skip. Learning about fentanyl gives teens a better understanding of the risks and effects of the drug, and what they can do to keep themselves and their communities safe.
Share these important facts with your child:
- Even half a fentanyl-laced pill can be fatal. Just a few salt-sized grains of fentanyl are enough to cause an overdose.
- More than half of local street pills contain a deadly dose of fentanyl. As of 2023, seven in 10 counterfeit pills in the U.S. contain enough fentanyl to cause a fatal overdose.
- Fentanyl is usually taken accidentally. Many people have no idea they’ve taken it until they overdose because you can’t see, smell, or taste it in pills and powders.
- Overdose can happen in an instant. In as little as four minutes, the lack of oxygen can lead to brain damage and even death.
