Parklawn will be celebrating Read Across America March 2-6. Students will have the opportunity to read a book at school that goes along with a daily theme. Feel free to participate with your child at home. On Friday, March 6 students will come home with a book to keep and receive a bookmark.
Multiple studies show that school breakfasts are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school breakfast consume more fruit and fiber than their peers.
This National School Breakfast Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) reminds families that they are dedicated to providing flavorful, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. New menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.
Want to know what’s for breakfast? Nutrition Services has printable menus available.

March 2-8 is National School Social Work Week. Social workers in FCPS help to prevent social, emotional, and behavioral factors from affecting a student's ability to perform at their best. Their primary goal is to remove barriers that prevent a student from fulfilling their academic potential. Social workers are assigned to every school and center in the school system. We are so fortunate to have Catherine Lartey as our amazing social worker! Learn more about the role of social workers in FCPS.

Sunday, March 8, at 2 a.m., daylight saving time begins. Don’t forget to move your clocks ahead one hour! As a result of the time change, many students will be walking to school or to bus stops in the dark. Help your child stay safe by having them wear reflective clothing and bright or light colors, or add reflective items to their backpacks or clothes. Also, encourage your child to be especially alert for cars that are turning or backing up and not to run into the street or cross between parked cars.

Have you heard of AVID? Do you know someone who participated in AVID in the middle school or high school? This year, Parklawn became an AVID elementary school! AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society. Join us for our PTA meeting on Thursday, November 12 at 4:15 to learn more from our teachers! |
We are excited to announce our first annual Career Day, scheduled for April 20, 2026, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to help Parklawn students connect with their passions and prepare for tomorrow. We invite all Parklawn students to wear bright colors on Career Day to represent their bright futures!
We are looking for family and friends from all industries to share their careers. You may use this link (click) for a digital flyer and the QR code to sign-up to present. You have until March 17 to sign up.
If you have any questions about the event or how to sign up, you may contact Ms. Blunt, assistant principal, at vyblunt@fcps.edu. You may also reach out to your student’s school counselor if you have a student enrolled at Parklawn.
Thank you for your support as we encourage students to dream big!
