Last week, legendary editor and Penguin Press founder Ann Godoff died at 76. Ingram launched a competitor to Edelweiss, seizing on recent criticism of the platform’s pricing. And just a few days later, Edelweiss unveiled a more affordable suite of services. Both announcements were a hot topic of conversation among booksellers at Winter Institute 2026, held last week in Pittsburgh. And comics retailers and publishers gathered in far sunnier Southern California to discuss their equally sunny outlooks for the industry at this year’s ComicsPro meeting.

The president and editor-in-chief of Penguin Press and former Random House publisher, who became one of publishing’s most accomplished editors over her 40-year career, died on February 24 from complications of bone cancer. Her authors included Ron Chernow, Michael Pollan, and Zadie Smith, and she most recently edited memoirs by Gisèle Pelicot and Gavin Newsom. more

The new tier will offer a more limited suite of features and allow qualifying publishers to make their titles searchable on Edelweiss, as well as visible in saved filter results as part of an effort to “provide a clear, affordable option for title visibility,” CEO John Rubin said. The rollout comes amid criticism of the platform’s recent price hikes. more
