Donald Trump is not on the ballot in the midterms, but his unpopularity has Democrats dreaming of retaking the Senate. Their hopes may hinge on Texas, where on March 3rd both Republicans and Democrats choose their nominees. In each party’s primary, voters face a similar choice: a fire-breather who thrills the base, or a candidate more likely to win in November.

Now a different sort of question: who made the world’s top-selling album last year? If you answered “Taylor Swift”, well done—but there’s no prize. And the runner-up? I hadn’t a clue either, until I read the lead story in our Culture section this week.
