Hey dupa,

Want to level up your negotiation game?

Here’s my second-best tip:

Understand what the other party is most afraid of.

It might sound strange, but getting to the heart of what they’re worried about can open up a whole new approach to the negotiation.

For example, when I was negotiating a higher-paid remote position years ago, I found out my boss had a fear I hadn’t even considered:

He was worried that if I got a big raise, others would want the same deal.

By understanding this, we were able to craft a deal that worked for both of us.

The result?

I got a 90% raise and a fully remote position…

But at the cost of more risk on my end.

I became a contractor instead of an employee and lost job security and health insurance (which was fine by me!).

Understanding his fear made all the difference, and I didn’t have to compromise on what I truly wanted.

So next time you're negotiating, just ask:

"What are you most worried about in this deal?"

It’ll strengthen your position and help you create a deal that works for everyone.

Talk soon,
Charlie

P.S. Want to know my number one negotiation tip?

Create other options you’re excited about BEFORE you sit down.

I was mentally prepared and excited to walk out of that conversation with my boss with no job.

It would enable me to move to NYC and start over.

So I negotiated from a place of "this move to NYC is happening, but I’d love to see if there’s a way for it to benefit both of us."
