As a result, Katya writes, European nations are asking whether traditional alliances can suffice or whether they should be diversifying. We have already seen the creation of "a la carte coalitions" to address different issues, she notes, such as the so-called Coalition of the Willing, formed to provide support to Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression. While many of these alliances have been influenced by the Trump administration, they are "liable to be longer lasting", she writes.
