Message from Principal Burke

Good afternoon, Eagles,

First, a huge thank you to our PTSA for showing up in force today to celebrate Thomas Edison’s birthday. The cupcakes and donuts were a big hit. More than that, our students loved seeing parents in the building and feeling that extra bit of community during the day. We are grateful for your partnership and steady support.

We are also incredibly proud to share that Ms. Intrerir, one of our special education teachers, has been named the Region 3 Teacher of the Year. She was nominated by students and staff, which makes this recognition even more meaningful. Mrs. Intrieri is a true teacher leader who keeps inclusion at the forefront of her work. We are lucky to have her at Edison.

Congratulations to our Girls and Boys Wrestling teams for winning the district championship. That is a tremendous accomplishment. A special shout-out to the Boys team for placing second in the region. We are proud of the work, discipline, and commitment these athletes bring to the mat every day.

Last night’s International Night was outstanding. Our students celebrated the diversity of our school through fashion, dance, and song. One of the many things that makes Edison special is the richness of our community. Seeing students honor their cultures and share them with others is a powerful reminder of who we are and what we value. A big thank you to Dr. Boyd, the equity team, and our theater tech students for all of their hard work on putting on such a great show!

Last Friday, our students who qualified for All District Band performed. Congratulations to Weston Moats, Samuel Frias, Ryo Patten, and Alice Quinlan. We are proud of the time and talent they continue to invest in their craft.

Last Saturday, our theater students competed in the VHSL One Acts with their performance of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, placing third in the district. Congratulations to Nithy Pelekasis for earning a gold medal acting award as the top performer. We wish the entire cast and crew the best as they head to Regionals on February 21, 2026, at Fairfax High School. Come out and support them if you can.

A big shout-out to Mrs. Procaccino for her nomination for the IBMA Faculty Recognition in the Diploma Program. We are fortunate to have her leadership and dedication supporting our IB students.

With spring sports tryouts about a week away, please make sure your student’s physical is on file with our athletic trainer. Students will not be able to try out without completed paperwork, so now is the time to double-check.

A reminder that students are off on Monday for Presidents' Day and Tuesday for a teacher workday. We will welcome students back on Wednesday.

Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support.

Amanda Burke
Principal

Parent/Guardian Permission for Student to Regularly Miss Instruction Time

As we approach Ramdan, we wanted to remind families about permission to miss instructional time. If your student is able to access the room during their normally occurring lunchtime, the form is not required.

Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to fostering a caring culture where each and every student can thrive in a learning environment where they feel welcome and a sense of belonging.

In alignment with FCPS Regulation 1502,  Schools ensure that students and staff of all religious backgrounds have reasonable accommodation and access to meditation and silent reflection space within the school building.

FCPS supports students who need to take time during the school day to practice as their faith requires. If your student needs to be excused from a portion of at least one class to meditate and pray, please complete the form linked below.  This means that your student would regularly miss instructional time. By doing so, your student will be responsible for all work that needs to be completed or made up.

School students can access our designated space during the instructional time with parent/guardian authorization. By completing this form, you are acknowledging that you understand your student may be missing daily instruction time.

SR&R Survey

Survey on Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) Now Open for All Families and Middle and High School Students

On Monday, all FCPS parents/caregivers and middle and high school students received an email to participate in a voluntary and confidential survey. (Please check your spam folder if you have not received it.)

Questions refer to proposed changes to FCPS’ SR&R document for next year. This document outlines the rules that students are expected to follow, and guidelines for consequences if those expectations are not met. Possible changes include:

  • Universal Discipline: Charts will list consequences and supports for students. They will help ensure that two students of the same grade will be treated fairly and receive the same level of support.
  • Standards for In-School Suspensions of Students with Disabilities: Creating standards for how in-school suspensions are handled for students who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or a 504 Plan.
  • Accommodations for Multilingual Learner Student Statements: Providing translation accommodations when Multilingual Learner students provide statements about disciplinary incidents.

The survey will be open until Friday, February 20. Survey materials are available online.
