There’s so much to celebrate in February! Valentine’s Day is tomorrow–you and your family could make our strawberry fudge to share with others. Lunar New Year begins on February 17 and we recently featured fun books related to the holiday, such as this, this, and this, for kids to enjoy. And, of course, February is Black History Month. Your child can check out our ideas for celebrating Black history. Now here are three questions to get a conversation started with your family this weekend. —Mindy Walker, Executive Editor
1. To celebrate the Winter Games, organizers created a limited-edition pasta shaped like the five Olympic rings. Competing athletes are devouring about 1,300 pounds of pasta—in all different shapes—each day. What is your favorite shape of pasta to eat?
2. In a first, a cow has been observed using a tool. Veronika, a cow in Austria, is able to use a broom or a stick to scratch herself. Prior to this, scientists didn’t realize that cattle could use tools. Do you think animals have more skills than humans realize?
3. Is it ever okay to quit an activity? Some people value perseverance and say it’s good to keep going. Others don’t think you should force yourself to do something you don’t want to do. What do you think? Your child can vote in our big debate!
