We are thrilled to announce our 4th annual WSES Read-A-Thon is underway! We're counting on you to make it a success. If you haven't already, please take a moment to activate your child's personal reader page by clicking the following link:
Our Read-A-Thon will run from February 12 - 28th, with our theme of "Mustangs Love to Read." We've chosen to host a Read-A-Thon because it is quick, easy, and most of all- gives your child a reason to get excited about reading!
As the PTA, our goal is to foster a vibrant learning community where everyone can thrive. This year, we aim to raise $10,000 to fund our FREE spring community events and support student enrichment in every classroom.
The Read-A-Thon is a wonderful opportunity for all, but we need your support to make it a success. Here's how you can help:
- Activate your reader's account (for free!) by clicking HERE and following a few short instructions.
- Encourage your student to read and track their minutes.
- Share your reader's progress with friends and family to inspire your young reader.
Your participation truly makes a difference. Please consider making a donation and inviting others to join in supporting our Read-A-Thon. Participating readers will have the chance to win prizes like free pizza, extra recess, or even the opportunity to be "Librarian for a Day"!
Together, let's make this our most successful Read-A-Thon yet!
Sponsorship Opportunities
We're very excited about our upcoming Read-A-Thon fundraiser and want to share an amazing opportunity for local businesses! If you own, manage, or know of a business that would like to support our school, consider becoming a Read-A-Thon sponsor. By becoming a sponsor, a business will gain exposure to thousands of individuals who are all passionate about supporting literacy and our community.
Reserve sponsorship spots today by clicking here. As always, we extend our heartfelt thanks for your support of our school community!

Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, March 4 for our annual Spelling Bee (4pm). Be on the lookout for information and registration coming soon! |
It's time for the 3rd Annual WSES Spelling Bee! We are looking forward to this year's Spelling Bee and are excited to see how many new words we can all learn to spell. Our top spellers will receive a trophy and our Bee Champion will compete in the Fairfax County Bee in March. All students will receive something to honor their participation!
If you're not participating, you are invited to come and cheer on your friends!
The event is open to all WSES spellers in Grades 3 - 6. Please register here for the event or scan the QR code below. Be sure to include the name of your speller and their grade. Please also include a parent's email address so that we can send the list of study words (studying for the bee is completely optional). You may also download the free app WordClub by Scripps, which is a great tool for spellers to study.
We have a few volunteer positions available as test graders (for the written test), judges and a pronouncer. There's no experience required, so please let us know if you'd be willing to assist in either of those roles.
If you have any questions please text or email Cassie Landry, our Spelling Bee Committee Chair: (202) 422-1585 or cassandra.landry@gmail.com.
