From the Principal’s Pen

Dear Laurel Hill Families,

It’s hard to believe we are already past the halfway point of the year! As we turn the page to the third quarter, we find ourselves at a perfect vantage point: we can look back at how far our students have come while looking forward to the growth still ahead. This quarter is all about deepening connections and refining skills as we head toward the final months of the grade level.

As a reminder, second quarter report cards went home with students yesterday in Wednesday folders and are now available in ParentVUE. We encourage you to review your child’s progress with them. If you have any questions, your child’s teacher is always a great first point of contact.

We are incredibly proud of our students’ dedication and remain grateful for the continued partnership of our school community.

Sincerely,

Janice Dalton, Principal

Addison Smith, Assistant Principal

Thmeaka Traylor, Assistant Principal

Coming Soon! Meal Kits for Fasting FCPS Students

From February 18 to March 19, students who are fasting during the day can take school meals home. These kits include one breakfast and one lunch to be eaten later in the day. To sign up and learn more, please click here.

The Food and Nutrition Program at FCPS is committed to providing well-balanced and nutritious meals to all students.

Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, students will enter their student ID number as their cafeteria PIN at the cash register to receive their meals.   You can access your student’s ID number via ParentVUE.

All families are encouraged to apply for Free and Reduced Price Meals. Families can apply for free and reduced-price meal benefits anytime during the school year. If a family’s income changes at any point, they may become newly eligible according to federal income guidelines and can apply immediately. This includes income interruptions caused by furloughs, layoffs, or job losses. Once approved, benefits remain valid for the rest of the school year and for up to 30 school days into the following school year, even if the family’s income changes again.

Families with students enrolled in participating schools will receive breakfast and lunch at no charge.

Kindergarten Registration: It’s as Easy as 1-2-3…

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:

  1. Determine eligibility.
  2. Identify your local school.
  3. Gather documents.
  4. Fill out forms.
  5. Schedule an appointment.

After the appointment at the school (the student and one caregiver must be present), the student will be ready for orientation or any other introductory events our school may host. Read more about the registration process. For more information, please email/call our student information assistant/registrar, Sarah Orlick at 703-551-5303.

Try Online RegistrationParents may register their children online for kindergarten through 12th grade. Learn how to begin the online registration process. When registering, parents will create or log in to an existing SIS ParentVUE account.
