Oscar Nominee Wagner Moura Can’t Help but Speak His Mind |
The next few weeks are going to be busy for Wagner Moura, the Brazilian actor who recently landed his first career nod for his leading role in The Secret Agent. He’s already made history as the first Brazilian to land a lead actor nomination at the Oscars, and if he wins, he’ll be the first Brazilian to ever win an acting Oscar. Thankfully, Moura had time to join Little Gold Men from his home in Los Angeles. The Golden Globe winner spoke to VF’s Rebecca Ford about the personal connection he has to his character Armando, why he feels the need to talk about politics, and what it was like to meet one of his acting idols. (Warning: The interview touches on the film’s ending.)
Elsewhere in HWD, Jafar Panahi explains how he risked everything to create It Was Just an Accident in the latest conversation for our “What Is Cinema?” series; Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Jon Bernthal speak with Jenny Lumet about reimagining Dog Day Afternoon for Broadway; we have the full list of winners at the Directors Guild of America Awards; and Hadley Hall Meares dissects Robert Evans’s legendary memoir, The Kid Stays in the Picture. |
