Principal's Message

Hello, Scottie families!

While our time together this week has been short with the closings and delayed openings, we have had a great week reconnecting with one another at Bonnie Brae after all the days off.  We  are looking forward to our Valentine's Day lunch coming up next week on Friday, February 13.  See below for the time schedule and more details.

Thank you for continuing to be cautious and patient with our arrival and dismissal each day.  We appreciate the support as we navigate the cold and piles of “snowcrete” that are still piled up along our local roadways and sidewalks.

Bitter cold temperatures are in the forecast again for tomorrow and Sunday.  We hope you all stay warm, stay safe, and you have a chance to enjoy the weekend with family and friends.

Morgan Birge, Principal

Rose Stephens, Assistant Principal

Natalie Vershaw, Assistant Principal

Benchmark Unit 4

Finishing Up Different Perspectives in Language Arts

Benchmark Unit 4 in Language Arts is coming to a close! Over the last several weeks, our students have learned, read, and written about the perspectives of characters, authors, and readers.

Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:

  • Question: If your pet (or a stuffed animal) could talk, what do you think it would say about its day?
  • Activity: Ask your child to retell a familiar story from another character’s point of view.

At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.

Meal Kits for Fasting Students

From February 18 to March 19, students who are fasting during the day can take school meals home. These kits include one breakfast and one lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.

Families must fill out a request form each week for every student who wants a kit. The first deadline is Wednesday, February 11, for the week of February 16. Please note other important details below:

  • Cost: Meals are charged just like a normal school day.
  • Pickup: Students must grab their kits at the end of the school day.
  • Menu: Kits include school meals that are easy to heat at home.

Visit the Food and Nutrition webpage for forms, deadlines, and other information. Please contact the Office of Food and Nutrition Services with any questions at FCPSFNS@fcps.edu or 703-813-4800.
