It is wonderful to have Panthers back in our hallways! We hope everyone stayed safe, warm and made it to school safely this week. This week we promoted attendance with our Attendance Spirit Week. Every day counts, and our students showed up and showed out this week! On Friday we invited some students in Kindergarten, 4th grade, 5th grade and 6th grade who had perfect attendance all week to participate in grade level UNO tournaments during specials. Due to the 2-hour delay 1st grade, 2nd grade and 3rd grade will have their UNO tournament next week.
We also celebrated our school counselors this week! We are so thankful for Mr. Lowe and Ms. Holsinger and everything they do to support our students at Mount Vernon Woods Elementary!
Next week many classes will participate in Valentine's Day card exchanges, so be on the look out for a letter from your child's teacher!
Sincerely,
Gina O'Neal, Principal
Christine Berry, Assistant Principal
Kevin Heron, Assistant Principal

Warm Up FCPS – Divisionwide Spirit Day
Tired of all the cold weather? Let’s warm up with a little school spirit across the division! Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid is encouraging all FCPS students, teachers, and staff to shake the wrinkles out of their brightest outfits and tropical wear to help brighten everyone’s moods on Thursday, February 19.
Meal Kits for Fasting Students
From February 18 to March 19, students who are fasting during the day can take school meals home. These kits include one breakfast and one lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.
Families must fill out a request form each week for every student who wants a kit. The first deadline is Wednesday, February 11, for the week of February 16. Please note other important details below:
-
Cost: Meals are charged just like a normal school day.
-
Pickup: Students must grab their kits at the end of the school day.
-
Menu: Kits include school meals that are easy to heat at home.

When Should Your Child Stay Home?
Help your student succeed in school by encouraging them to miss as few days as possible. However, do make sure your student stays home if they are sick. Visit the FCPS website for helpful insights regarding absences and how to work with your child and our school to minimize impacts on learning.
If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to let us know so we can provide assistance, if needed.
