Principal's Message

Hello Bruin Community!

This week, we celebrate our school counselors for Counselor Appreciation Week. We are so grateful for the care given to every single student by our MS and HS counselors, especially during course selection time happening now. 

We are also very grateful for our amazing custodial team who worked long hours clearing our sidewalks and building areas of the snow and ice after last week's storm. Their efforts have helped to keep our students and staff safe upon entering the building.

Finally, as indicated in an email sent on Thursday, we will be opening the blacktop again next week for students who normally park on Lake Braddock Drive. We hope the roads get fully cleared soon and we can get somewhat back to normal.

SGA Love Spirit Week We hope all students and staff will join in with our SGA Love Spirit Week next week. We always enjoy seeing the fun throughout the halls.

2026 CTE Summer Academy CTE Summer Academy is a weekly enrichment program that allows students to dive deeper into CTE program areas, and encourages skill development and career exploration. Students choose 4 classes each week they participate and learn new content, discover interests, and build their skills. Eligibility: Current 6 to 11 graders Time - 8:30 am to 2 pm* *Early drop off begins at 7:30 am; after care ends at 5 pm New to 2026! We’re offering after care! Location: Robinson SS Transportation from select FCPS schools is provided! Cost: $300 per week Back for 2026 programs, we will be offering tuition assistance. More information on our webpages. Dates: Week 1: July 6 - 10 Week 2: July 13 - 17 Week 3: July 20 - 24 Week 4: July 27 - 31 New to 2026! We’re offering a 4th week of our programs! Different weekly offerings; weekly themes and class offerings can be found on our webpages! Registration is open from February 2 to June 5, 2026. Spring SOL/AP Testing Schedule has been released

All-important testing information and the testing calendar can be found on the Lake Braddock Testing Website. Please note important dates your student may be testing and make every attempt to avoid testing interruptions. Student testing participation information is also available within this link. If you have additional questions, please reach out to your student’s counselor.

100 Days(ish) to Graduation Meeting is on Thursday, March 5 at 6:00 pm in the LBSS Cafeteria.

Graduation Status Now Available in ParentVUE & StudentVUE

A new Graduation Status section is now available in ParentVUE and StudentVUE. The Graduation Status is a tool that helps parents and students monitor and track their progress in meeting graduation requirements. This feature includes progress towards the Standard or Advanced Studies diploma for high school students and middle school students who have enrolled in one or more high school courses. This new graduation status section is available in addition to the course history and unofficial transcript options in ParentVUE and StudentVUE. To view the graduation status section, please take the following steps:

1. Login to your SIS ParentVUE Account
2. Go to “Course History” for your middle or high school student
3. Go to “Graduation Status” and toggle “on”

Important Reminders

Help Keep [School Name] Phone-Free!

Please remind your student that cell phones and personal devices (AirPods, earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) can no longer be used during passing periods. Phones and personal devices must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell) with the exception of lunch time in designated lunch spaces. Cell phones are also not permitted to be used as an instructional tool.

FCPS’ cell phone policy helps students stay focused, safe, and engaged at school. Visit FCPS’ cell phone policy webpage for more information and answers to frequently asked questions, including consequences for cell phone policy violations and exceptions for students with medical conditions or IEP/504 plans.

Curious about Crew? Join us for the Spring Interest Meeting on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 in the Lecture Hall B135! LB Crew is an incredible full body sport for high school athletes of all backgrounds—no experience required!   It builds strength, endurance, discipline, and teamwork like no other sport, while offering a supportive, close-knit team culture.  Learn what it takes to be part of LB Crew and why athletes love this sport.  Contact Head Coach, Megan Jorgenson (mljorgenson@fcps.edu) if you have questions.

The spring season is fast approaching and it’s time to make sure your child is eligible to tryout! Athletes need a Tryout Card to give the coach on the first day of tryouts. To be eligible for a Tryout Card, a valid VHSL physical must be on file and the student must be registered for the sport they intend to participate in. The Revised April 2025 VHSL Form is the only version of this document that will be accepted. Pages 1, 2, 4 and 5 of the form are to be filled out and signed by the athlete and a parent/guardian. Page 3 & 6 must be filled out by an MD/DO/NP/PA. Starting July 1, 2025, physical exam forms will be valid for 14 months, on a rolling schedule. This means a physical exam completed on July 15, 2025, will be valid until September 15, 2026. Parents will receive reminders regarding expiration via email and are expected to submit a new physical before the previous one expires to maintain eligibility. This form must be turned into the Activities Office or the Athletic Training staff – it is good for any season or out-of-season (Green/Yellow Day) activities during the 14-month timeframe. Preferred submission via email - please send a single PDF document, including any additional clearance paperwork, to LBSSActivities@fcps.edu. DO NOT GIVE PHYSICALS TO COACHES! The Online Athletics & Activities Registration must be completed annually for any sport the student is interested in participating with (this includes out-of-season (Green/Yellow Day) activities). Instructions for online registration can be found on the registration homepage. Tryout Cards will be distributed during the following dates/times/locations: February 17th (No School) – 12:00-3:00 PM – Door 14 February 18th-20th & 23rd – All HS Lunches – Cafeteria All required forms, contact information for coaches, tryout information (times & locations), and team schedules will be made available via the LB Athletics website - https://www.lakebraddockbruins.com.

Meal Kits for Fasting Students

From February 18 to March 19, students who are fasting during the day can take school meals home. These kits include one breakfast and one lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.

Families must fill out a request form each week for every student who wants a kit. The first deadline is Wednesday, February 11, for the week of February 16. Please note other important details below:

• Cost: Meals are charged just like a normal school day. 
• Pickup: Students must grab their kits at the end of the school day.
• Menu: Kits include school meals that are easy to heat at home.

Warm Up FCPS – Divisionwide Spirit Day

Tired of all the cold weather? Let’s warm up with a little school spirit across the division! 

Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid is encouraging all FCPS students, teachers, and staff to shake the wrinkles out of their brightest outfits and tropical wear to help brighten everyone’s moods on Thursday, February 19.

Apply Anytime for Free and Reduced-Price Meals

Families are encouraged to apply for free and reduced-price meals at any time during the school year. 

If your income changes — for example, due to a furlough, layoff, or job loss — you may become newly eligible. Once approved, your benefits stay active for the rest of the school year and for the first 30 days of the next school year.

Students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals or attend a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school receive free breakfast and lunch every school day. It’s a great way to make your food budget go further and save time from packing meals. Learn more about FCPS Food and Nutrition.
