A decision came my way this week that, on paper, looked like the “next step.” It was a very exciting opportunity that felt like growth and expansion.
But I couldn’t move forward.
I started this year with a clear lens: fewer ambitions, more presence. I want to leave space for some meaningful family transitions ahead. This opportunity would have required a focused creative and financial commitment, and although it ached to let it go, I realized it wasn’t aligned with what this season is asking of me.
My husband reminded me of a weekend several years ago, when we first toured the home we now live in. We loved it immediately: the Spanish architecture, the aged archways, the citrus garden, the rooms to gather. But it felt like too much to take on. Too big of a financial stretch. Too much house for a life without children. It was right — but not yet.
Less than two years later, it came back on the market. In the meantime, our lives had expanded. We’d had a baby. My extended family had moved closer. We needed space to grow into and gather. The house hadn’t changed, but we had. We made an offer within hours of its listing, and it was never shown to anyone else...
