'Love your neighbor as yourself'Who is your neighbor? Jesus said it's everyone, but especially those in need. So did Mister Rogers. This is a sneak preview of a Super Bowl commercial. What timing. I wish Fred Rogers were still around. I don’t wish him the anguish he would be suffering over the events in Minneapolis, but we certainly could use his moral clarity on empathy and kindness and the dignity and worth of every human being. To all of you who told me that you donated to a Minnesota or Maine organization based on the lists I published Wednesday: Thank you for being a good neighbor. You’re making a difference. A reminder: I’ll be clicking the “Turn on Payments” button on Sunday. I really appreciate all of you who have already pledged a paid subscription. As I’ve said before, I will offer the main essay in my Wednesday newsletter for free. But paying subscribers will also receive posts I make on other days of the week, such as the “The time for silence is past” essay I wrote Tuesday, and will be able to take part in our Bookies reading recommendations, Fast-Told Tales, Photo Challenges, and other reader contributions. My favorites were the “Ruin a book title with one word” challenges (“Harry Potter and the Kidney Stone”). Let’s do that again in February. As always, thank you for your support. Fast Forward is free today. But if you enjoyed this post, you can tell Fast Forward that their writing is valuable by pledging a future subscription. You won't be charged unless they enable payments. |
