  • Russia said it will hold security talks with the US and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi, but warned after a late-night meeting between President Vladimir Putin and three US envoys that a durable peace would not be possible unless territorial issues were resolved.
  • President Donald Trump said he had secured total and permanent US access to Greenland in a deal with NATO, whose head said allies would have to step up their commitment to Arctic security to ward off threats from Russia and China.
  • Trump said that the United States has an "armada" heading toward Iran but hoped he would not have to use it, as he renewed warnings to Tehran against killing protesters or restarting its nuclear program.
  • US immigration officials have detained at least four children, including a five-year-old, from the Minneapolis suburb of Columbia Heights, according to school officials and a lawyer for the family, who challenged the government narrative of the five-year-old's detention.
  • Former US Special Counsel Jack Smith, who unsuccessfully prosecuted Trump, told a House of Representatives panel that Trump was "looking for ways to stay in power" following his defeat in the 2020 election.

  • India's Adani group firms shed $12.5 billion in market cap, after the US markets regulator asked a court for permission to personally email summons to founder Gautam Adani and group executive Sagar Adani over alleged fraud and a $265 million bribery scheme.
  • Trump filed a $5 billion lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase and its CEO Jamie Dimon, accusing them of debanking him by closing several of his accounts to further a political agenda.
  • Amazon is planning a second round of job cuts next week as part of its broader goal of trimming some 30,000 corporate workers, according to people familiar with the matter.
  • TikTok's Chinese owner, ByteDance, said it has finalized a deal to establish a majority American-owned joint venture that will secure US data, to avoid a US ban on the short video app used by over 200 million Americans.
  • India's securities regulator has accused current and former executives at the local units of PwC and EY, among others, of breaching insider trading rules involving a 2022 share sale by Yes Bank.

  • The Federal Reserve holds its latest interest rate-setting meeting and, with Jerome Powell and company widely expected to hold rates steady, focus will be just as much on the threats to the US central bank's cherished independence.
  • Four out of the seven so-called 'Magnificent Seven' US tech giants report earnings next week - Microsoft, Apple, Facebook parent Meta, Elon Musk's Tesla - as does South Korea's Samsung. 
  • Campaigning will be hotting up in Japan next week ahead of the snap February 8 election that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has called in a bid to tighten her grip on the ruling Liberal Democratic Party. 
  • India and the European Union are expected to announce the conclusion of negotiations for a free trade pact, opening the way for reduced tariffs on European cars and wine and an expanded market for Indian electronics, textiles and chemicals.

While many Greenlanders have been alarmed by Trump's demands to acquire their homeland, others such as Kaaleeraq Ringsted have stayed calm, trusting in food stockpiles and traditional ways of life to navigate the uncertainty.

"I'm not scared," 73-year-old Ringsted said, standing beside one of his two chest freezers packed with reindeer meat, halibut, cod, redfish, and seal meat in his home in the Kapisillit settlement in the Nuuk fjord.
